Conjugation of plasmid harboring blaNDM-1 in a clinical Providencia rettgeri strain through the formation of a fusion plasmid

Meng Zhang et al.

Summary: Whole-genome sequence and pan-genome analysis of a multidrug-resistant P. rettgeri 18004577 clinical strain from a hospitalized patient in Shandong, China revealed a 4.6 Mb genome assembly size with a circular plasmid harboring a multidrug-resistant region and an IncT plasmid. Various resistance genes, including bla(NDM-1), were identified. The bla(NDM-1) gene could be transferred via a novel hybrid plasmid formation process. The diversity of resistance genes in this strain highlights the need for strict infection control and resistance surveillance policies.

Genomic Characterization of Two Escherichia fergusonii Isolates Harboring mcr-1 Gene From Farm Environment

Ruishan Liu et al.

Summary: The prevalence and transmission of mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes pose a severe threat to humans and animals. This study reports the identification of two strains of E. fergusonii carrying the mcr-1 gene, with different types of plasmids. The findings suggest the possibility of mcr-1 spreading to humans through farm environments, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring and investigations.

Toward a high-quality pan-genome landscape of Bacillus subtilis by removal of confounding strains

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: Pan-genome analysis is widely used to study species evolution and genetic diversity, particularly in bacteria. However, the influence of strain selection on the accuracy and reliability of pan-genome results is not well understood. This study found that including confounding strains in pan-genome analyses of Bacillus subtilis can significantly affect the quality and accuracy of the results, emphasizing the importance of removing biases from such strains in the data processing stage to achieve a closer representation of the true pan-genome landscape.
