Structural development and luminescent enhancement of CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ phosphor via replacing Al3+ by Ga3+

Summary: The successful preparation of high intensity red emitting Eu2+ doped CaAl1-xGaxSiN3 solid solution phosphor was achieved by efficient substitution of GaN using a low-temperature, low-pressure, solid-state synthesis method. DFT calculations were used to check structure stability and influence of Ga3+ substitution in the CaAlSiN3 host lattice. The experiment revealed a broad excitation spectrum and a dominant peak at 240 nm for the electronic transition in the host lattice, with additional peaks at 320 and 460 nm attributed to the Eu2+ activators.

The novel CaGd2HfScAl3O12:Ce3+ garnet phosphor shows promising potential as a color converter in high-color-quality phosphor-converted white LEDs.

The optimal CLHA:0.02Ce3+,0.5Tb3+ phosphors demonstrated high internal quantum efficiency and external quantum efficiency, leading to a high-performance white LED device.
