Integrated microfluidic helium discharge photoionization detectors

Maxwell Wei-Hao Li et al.

Summary: Helium discharge photoionization detectors are crucial for detecting highly volatile compounds in gas chromatography and portable gas monitoring systems. A miniaturized version has been developed with low power consumption and small footprint, suitable for portable GC applications, but suffers from reduced fabrication yield and robustness due to hand assembly of silicon and Pyrex glass pieces. The integration of an on-chip gas sensor using microfabrication technology offers improved ease of fabrication, yield, robustness, and repeatability, making it suitable for various portable GC applications.
