Transcriptomic analysis of testis and epididymis tissues from Banna mini-pig inbred line boars with single-molecule long-read sequencing†

Pei Wang et al.

Summary: This study combines PacBio Iso-Seq and RNA-seq to analyze the transcriptome of testis and epididymis in the Banna mini-pig inbred line (BMI). High-quality full-length transcriptomes were obtained, and 9879 and 8761 isoforms were identified in the testis and epididymis, respectively. The study provides valuable annotations for pig testis and epididymis isoforms and enhances the understanding of BMI male infertility.

Genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism array and whole-genome sequencing reveal the inbreeding progression of Banna minipig inbred line

J. L. Huo et al.

Summary: The study conducted genome-wide SNP genotyping of BMI pigs over the last 40 years and found a loss of genome-wide allele diversity during the inbreeding process. The research also characterized ROH and polymorphic regions as a result of inbreeding. Overall, the results indicate the successful establishment of the BMI line, paving the way for further in-depth studies.

The piRNAs present in the developing testes of Chinese indigenous Xiang pigs

Xinrui Ma et al.

Summary: The piRNA pathway is important for defense against transposable elements and post-transcriptional gene regulation. This study analyzed piRNAs in the testes of Xiang pigs at different ages and found changes in piRNA composition and expression patterns during testis development. The study also identified specific piRNAs and genes enriched by piRNA reads, suggesting their involvement in spermatogenesis. These findings provide insights into the role of the piRNA pathway in the development of Xiang pigs and its potential impact on sexual maturation.

Single-molecule long-read sequencing reveals a conserved intact long RNA profile in sperm

Yu H. Sun et al.

Summary: This study successfully identified thousands of intact RNA species in mouse and human sperm, including both mRNAs and long non-coding RNAs, using single molecule long-read sequencing. These spiRNAs show evolutionary conservation between mice and humans.
