An adaptive Gaussian process based manifold transfer learning to expensive dynamic multi-objective optimization

Xi Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a transfer learning based surrogate assisted evolutionary algorithm (TrSA-DMOEA) to efficiently solve expensive dynamic multi-objective optimization problems (EDMOPs). By utilizing the knowledge from previous high-quality solutions, Gaussian process models are built to improve the computational complexity and solution quality. Furthermore, an adaptive acquisition function based surrogate-assisted mechanism is introduced to balance convergence and diversity. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method in solving EDMOPs.

Surrogate-assisted multi-objective optimization via knee-oriented Pareto front estimation

Junfeng Tang et al.

Summary: In preference-based multi-objective optimization, knee solutions are the implicit preferred promising solutions. However, finding knee solutions is difficult and computationally expensive. To address this issue, we propose a surrogate-assisted evolutionary multi-objective optimization algorithm that uses surrogate models to replace expensive evaluations. Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art knee identification evolutionary algorithms on most test problems within a limited computational budget.

Comparative study of regression vs pairwise models for surrogate-based heuristic optimisation

Pablo S. Naharro et al.

Summary: Heuristic optimisation is widely used in the sciences and engineering, but the expensive fitness function limits the number of evaluations. Surrogate models, including regression and pairwise models, are proposed as alternatives to address this issue. Experimental analysis shows that the performance of online machine learning-based surrogate models depends on the accuracy of the predictive model, as well as the bias towards positive or negative cases and how the optimization utilizes the predictions.

A Convolutional Neural Network-Based Surrogate Model for Multi-objective Optimization Evolutionary Algorithm Based on Decomposition

Tao Zhang et al.

Summary: Evolutionary algorithms are effective in solving multi-objective optimization problems, but they require a significant amount of computation time. Surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms reduce the computational complexity of fitness evaluations by using surrogate models, but training multiple surrogate models is still computationally demanding. This paper proposes a novel surrogate model called Multi-Objective Parallel Fitness Evaluation Network (MPFEN) based on convolutional neural network structure. The MPFEN model reduces the computation time by simultaneously obtaining all required surrogate models for a multi-objective optimization algorithm. Experimental results show that the MPFEN model has higher evaluation accuracy and improves the solution quality compared to other classical surrogate models.
