Economic efficiency of higher education institutions in Vietnam between 2012 and 2016: a DEA analysis

Thien-Vu Tran et al.

Summary: This paper examines the economic efficiency of 172 higher education institutions in Vietnam from 2012 to 2016 using the Data Envelopment Analysis method. The study finds that overall operational efficiency of HEIs in Vietnam decreased during this period. It also suggests that public universities tend to be less efficient than private universities due to the absence of market mechanisms. Additionally, the research reveals that HEIs with international programs have higher efficiency scores compared to those without such programs.

How to allocate multi-period research resources? Centralized resource allocation for public universities in China using a parallel DEA-based approach

Xi Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a parallel DEA-based approach for reallocating multi-period resources among all decision-making units in the context of centralized decision-making with resource competition. By introducing the concept of cross-efficiency, the method balances the goals of the organization and the individual preferences of decision-making units in resource allocation, resulting in allocations that are more acceptable to both the central manager and the evaluated decision-making units.

Directional scale elasticity considering the management preference of decision-makers

Tiantian Ren et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a general formula for directional SE and RTS in multi-output activities, and presents a DEA-based model for calculating directional SE at any point on the DEA frontier without requiring simplifying assumptions. Empirical evidence using data from 16 basic research institutions in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) illustrates the superiority of the proposed theories and methods.
