Efficient characterization on the interlayer shear strengths of 3D printing polymers

Qinglin Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a combined experimental and numerical investigation of the interlayer shear strength measurement approach for 3D printing materials. The results show that the minimum shear strength of a 3D printing polymer specimen is the interlayer shear strength when the shear force is acting along the printing surface.

Necking mechanism under various sintering process parameters-A review

Mohd Rhafiq Mazlan et al.

Summary: The process of sintering involves applying pressure and heat to fuse particles together into a solid mass without melting them. Interparticles necking, or fusion between particles, is important for producing high-density and high-porosity products. Increasing necking size between particles leads to smaller pore sizes and stronger, harder materials. Proper process parameters are required to achieve larger necking growth. This article reviews the effect of powder and processing parameters and discusses different processes such as conventional sintering, microwave sintering, and selective laser melting.

Reinforcement of polyamide 6 with carbon fiber surface modified by a polar cross-linked network interfacial phase

Chengjun Xiao et al.

Summary: Researchers synthesized an epoxy resin emulsifier with hydrophilic ends and lipophilic middle, which increased the surface chemical activity and roughness of the carbon fiber (CF). This improved the interfacial adhesion in CF/polyamide 6 (PA6) composites, resulting in higher tensile strength and impact strength.

Mechanical and Tribological Properties of 3D Printed Polyamide 12 and SiC/PA12 Composite by Selective Laser Sintering

Guoyan Yu et al.

Summary: Polymeric matrix composites, such as the SiC particle-reinforced PA12 matrix composites, have significant implications for industries like automotive and medicine. This study examined the surface topographies, mechanical properties, and tribological properties of the composites. The results showed improved friction and wear resistance compared to the pure PA12 matrix. The wear mechanisms were determined to be abrasive and fatigue modes. The findings suggest that this type of PA12 matrix composite has promising potential for marine and energy applications.

An investigation on mechanical properties of PA12 parts produced by a SLS 3D printer: An experimental approach

Milad Khademe Razaviye et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of SLS setting variables on the mechanical properties of polyamide-12 printed parts. The results show that hatch spacing has the greatest impact on mechanical properties, followed by laser power and scan speed. Adjusting these variables can improve the strength, apparent modulus of elasticity, and elongation of the printed parts, but there is a trade-off between economic production and mechanical behavior.

Mechanical and Structural Evaluation of the PA12 Desktop Selective Laser Sintering Printed Parts Regarding Printing Strategy

Magdalena Tomanik et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of orientation and diameter of desktop SLS printed parts on their structural and mechanical parameters. It was found that the best mechanical parameters were obtained for parts printed at an angle of 0 degrees in the case of samples subjected to tensile load. Additionally, the diameter of printed elements was proven to have a significant influence on geometric and dimensional representation, with larger sizes showing the best results.
