Summary: The hot deformation behavior of a novel TNM-RE alloy (RE = Y, La, Ce) and its microstructural evolution were studied. The results showed that the as-cast lamellar colony size was refined due to the formation of rare earth oxides and borides at grain boundaries, inhibiting grain growth. The peak stress of the TNM-RE alloy was influenced by the lamellar colony size and the B2 phase. Dynamic recrystallization occurred preferentially in bent and elongated lamellar, and full dynamic recrystallization was obtained at specific temperature and deformation condition. 3D isothermal forging method yielded fine grains with a size of 10-20 μm for the TNM-RE alloy, demonstrating excellent hot workability.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamic recrystallization (DRX) mechanism and twinning behavior of Ti-46.5Al-2Nb-2Cr in the alpha + gamma two-phase region. Isothermal compressions were performed at various deformation temperatures, height reductions, and strain rates. The DRX behavior was characterized by grain boundary misorientation, local misorientation, and geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density in the gamma phase. The results showed that DRX occurred in the gamma grains and the gamma lamellae, and the volume fraction of the recrystallized gamma phase was influenced by the interaction between the deformation temperature and strain rate. The study also investigated the gamma/gamma twin boundaries and found that the occurrence of gamma twin was promoted by the growth of the DRX gamma grains.

Summary: The effect of thermal barrier coating (TBC) on the oxidation resistance of TNM alloy was studied. The results show that TNM alloy coated with TBC has a lower weight gain and the Ti-Al-N layer and (Nb, Mo)-rich layer on the surface play a role in oxidation resistance. The diffusion rate of elements was analyzed and the evolution of oxide scale was observed, revealing the mechanism of coating degradation.

Summary: Dislocation slipping and mechanical twinning control the plastic deformation of lamellar micro-structure (LM) in TiAl intermetallics. However, when the interlamellar spacing is reduced to the nanometer scale, the deformation mechanism switches to the development of long-period stacking-ordered (LPSO) structures. The formation of LPSO structures during deformation can result in greater high-temperature yield strength compared to LMs deformed via dislocation gliding or mechanical twinning.

Summary: Research has shown that increasing Mo content in TiAl alloys leads to a decrease in thermal shock resistance and alters the microstructure of the alloy. In TiAl-1.0Mo and TiAl-1.5Mo alloys, cracks often occur within lamellae and extend in a zigzag manner; while in TiAl-2.0Mo and TiAl-4.0Mo alloys, cracks commonly appear at grain boundaries or within the gamma phase.

Summary: This study investigates the high-temperature deformation and decomposition mechanisms of the alpha(2) phase in a beta-solidified TiAl alloy. The results show that beta(o) and omega(o) phases precipitate within the equiaxed alpha(2) phase at 800 degrees C, indicating the alpha(2) -> beta(o) -> omega(o) transformation. Additionally, gamma phase precipitates form within the beta(o) matrix, and the alpha(2) lamellae decompose into ultrafine (alpha(2) + gamma) lamellae and coarsened gamma lamellae through alpha(2) -> alpha(2) + gamma and alpha(2) -> gamma transformations, respectively. Furthermore, the omega(o) phase nucleates within the ultrafine lamellae via alpha(2) -> omega(o) transformation. However, at 1000 degrees C, the nucleation of beta(o) particles is sluggish due to the efficient release of internal stress via dynamic recrystallization (DRX). These findings suggest that the decomposition of the alpha(2) phase can introduce complex phase transformations in TiAl alloys with a high amount of beta-stabilizing elements.

Summary: The static softening behavior and dislocation density evolution of TA15 titanium alloy during double-pass hot deformation were investigated. The results showed that the globularization behavior of primary a phase is emerged during the inter-pass of double-pass hot deformation. The groove of primary a phase is preferentially generated when the inter-pass holding time within 1000s. Additionally, the dislocation density in the inter-pass gradually decreases with the holding time and deformation temperature increasing.

Summary: In this study, a combination of materials modeling and experimental results was used to investigate the evolution of dislocation density in microalloyed steels. It was found that plastic stresses at high temperatures were independent of the precipitation state, and a single set of empirical equations was sufficient to model all investigated microalloyed steels.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the superplastic behavior of Ti-43Al-9V-0.2Y alloy sheet hot-rolled at 1100 degrees C in the temperature range of 750-900 degrees C. The inhomogeneous microstructure showed low-temperature superplasticity at 800 degrees C, achieving the lowest temperature of superplastic deformation for TiAl alloys so far. Through a combination of dynamic recrystallization and grain boundary slipping mechanisms, enhanced superplastic deformation and improved elongation were achieved.
