Finite element analysis for residual stress of TC4/Inconel718 functionally gradient materials produced by laser additive manufacturing

Hongjian Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the residual stress of TC4/Inconel718 materials in laser additive manufacturing using the finite element method. The study focuses on the impact of key parameters such as laser energy and material composition of transition layers. The results show a positive correlation between laser power and residual stress, and a relatively gentle change in residual stress on the contact surface when the components of the two gradient materials are close. The experimental results are in good agreement with the findings.

Thermo-mechanical finite element analysis of single-track deposition of Inconel-625 on AISI-1020 substrate

Ankit Shrivastava et al.

Summary: Inconel-625 is known for its excellent strength, corrosion, and creep resistance, making it a suitable material for cladding parts with inferior properties. Laser cladding provides precise metallurgical bonding between the deposited layer and substrate, but challenges such as cracking, delamination, and residual stress can occur during the process.

FEM analysis of thermal and residual stress profile in selective laser melting of 316L stainless steel

Saad Waqar et al.

Summary: High temperature gradients and residual stresses are major challenges in selective laser melting. Understanding the influence of process parameters on thermal and residual stress profiles is crucial. A study using a 3D FEM model found that increasing laser power or decreasing scanning speed raises maximum melt pool temperature and increasing laser power or speed raises cooling rates and residual stresses. Increasing hatch spacing leads to increased max melt pool temp and decreased residual stress.
