Prevalence and distribution of human papillomavirus genotypes among women attending gynecology clinics in northern Henan Province of China

Xiangpeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV infection among women attending gynecology clinics in northern Henan Province, China. The results showed a high prevalence of HPV infection among women in this region, with the highest rates found in females under the age of 20. The most common high-risk HPV genotype detected was HPV16, while the most common low-risk genotype was HPV6. The study suggests that regular immunization with the 9-valent HPV vaccine is strongly recommended for women in northern Henan Province.

Cancer cervix: Epidemiology and disease burden

Sharmila Pimple et al.

Summary: Cervical cancer is a common cancer in women worldwide, with significant variations in incidence and mortality rates among different regions. High-risk HPV infection is the main risk factor, and other factors such as sexual behavior, age, and diet may also influence the progression of the disease. Monitoring epidemiological patterns and HPV genotypes is crucial for effective prevention and control of cervical cancer.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Global estimates of expected and preventable cervical cancers among girls born between 2005 and 2014: a birth cohort analysis

Maxime Bonjour et al.

Summary: The World Health Organization has launched an initiative to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem. Estimates show that without vaccination, the burden of cervical cancer is expected to reach 11.6 million cases by 2094, with the majority of the burden concentrated in African and Asian countries. HPV vaccination targeting specific types could prevent millions of cases, providing important information for public health decision makers.
