Phenotyping and validation of molecular markers associated with rust resistance genes in wheat cultivars in Egypt

Adel A. Elshafei et al.

Summary: Thirteen Egyptian wheat cultivars were evaluated for adult plant resistance to yellow, leaf, and stem rusts, with several genes identified among the cultivars, including Yr, Lr, and Sr. Cultivars differed in disease progress curve under different rust infections, with some showing partial resistance and containing additional rust resistance genes. Marker-assisted selection could improve wheat cultivars with efficient gene combinations, supporting the development of durable resistance in Egypt.

Characterization of Bean Seeds, Germination, and Phenolic Compounds of Seedlings by UV-C Radiation

Claudia Hernandez-Aguilar et al.

Summary: UV-C radiation affects the photoacoustic signal and surface morphology of bean seeds, while no significant impact is observed on germination and dry weight after 15 minutes of exposure. Phenolic acids and flavonoids of bean seedlings show significant differences in roots and foliage under UV-C treatment for different exposure times.

Genetic diversity, antifungal evaluation and molecular docking studies of Cu-chitosan nanoparticles as prospective stem rust inhibitor candidates among some Egyptian wheat genotypes

Hanaa S. Omar et al.

Summary: Wheat plays a significant role among cereals globally, with stem and leaf rust posing major threats to grain quality and yield. This study evaluated the genetic diversity of eighteen Egyptian wheat genotypes using molecular markers and assessed the effectiveness of Cu-chitosan nanoparticles in disease control. Results showed varying levels of resistance among genotypes to stem and leaf rust, with Cu-chitosan nanoparticles playing a critical role in disease management.

Mining of Leaf Rust Resistance Genes Content in Egyptian Bread Wheat Collection

Mohamed A. M. Atia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the leaf rust resistance of 50 Egyptian wheat varieties and identified 28 leaf rust resistance genes within the germplasm collections. Most varieties showed high to moderate levels of resistance, with some displaying fast rusting behavior. 21 out of 28 tested Lr genes were successfully identified, including only five genes conferring adult plant resistant or slow rusting behavior in the Egyptian collection.
