First Steps toward Voice User Interfaces for Web-Based Navigation of Geographic Information: A Spanish Terms Study

Teresa Blanco et al.

Summary: This work is the first step in developing specific technology for voice user interfaces for geographic information systems. The current technology lacks the ability to fully understand and process the semantics applied by real users to command geographic information systems. The paper presents the results of three connected experiments, including identifying common words used in map browsing, understanding the chain of commands for map management, and developing a prototype to validate this understanding. The study also includes the creation of a minimum corpus of terms in Spanish and the identification of user profiles to consider in future designs of voice user interfaces.
