The Evaluation of Healing Properties of Galium verum-Based Oral Gel in Aphthous Stomatitis in Rats

Miona Vuletic et al.

Summary: Although oral ulcers are common oral mucosal diseases, the available treatment options are limited and may come with side-effects. This study developed a mucoadhesive oral gel based on Galium verum ethanol extract and investigated its healing effects on oral ulcers in rats. The results showed that the gel significantly reduced ulcer size, potentially through alleviating oxidative stress, reducing inflammation, and increasing collagen content in the affected tissue.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) blockage reduces acute inflammation and delayed wound healing in oral ulcer of rats

Milena Oliveira Freitas et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the role of TNF-alpha in the healing process of oral traumatic ulcers (OTU) in rats. The results showed that high doses of INF reduced the OTU area, body mass loss, vascular permeability, and delayed histologic scores, as well as reduced cellular components such as polymorphonuclear and mononuclear cells. INF treatment also reduced TNF-alpha immunostaining and delayed the expression of MPC-1, FGF, and alpha-SMA, with little influence on IL-8 immunostaining. The blockage of TNF-alpha by INF reduced acute inflammation in OTU but delayed cell migration and wound healing.

Tongue ulcer in a patient with COVID-19: a case presentation

Mohammad Bashir Nejabi et al.

Summary: The emergence of COVID-19 has led to a wide range of presentations, including oral manifestations. Lack of proper oral hygiene in Afghanistan has made the oral cavity an ideal site for SARS-CoV-2 to manifest clinical signs. It is important for patients with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 to be screened for symptoms and physical findings in the oral mucosa to prevent undesirable outcomes. Awareness programs for the diagnosis and management of clinical symptoms among patients should be implemented.
