Summary: In this article, a novel space vector pulsewidth modulation (SVPWM) with the zero sequence current (ZSC) control strategy is proposed to extend the operation range for an open winding (OW) permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). The proposed SVPWM achieves ZSC control by considering voltages in the zero sequence axis and voltage vectors in the $\alpha \beta $ -plane. The effect of switching combinations with non-null zero sequence voltage (ZSV) on the modulation region of a common-dc bus OW-PMSM is investigated for the first time. Compared with the conventional SVPWM strategy, the operation range of OW-PMSM can be extended over 10% with the proposed SVPWM strategy.

Summary: The development of multiphase drives has accelerated and fault-tolerance has been extensively studied. Traditional SVPWM causes torque ripple during open-circuit faults, affecting fault-tolerant performance. This work proposes a novel SVPWM fault-tolerant strategy for seven-phase induction machine, providing insight into voltage vector reconstruction and enabling generality for different fault-tolerant principles. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Summary: By utilizing the inherent degrees of freedom of multiphase machines, fault-tolerant control strategies can maintain the operation of multiphase drives even after experiencing one or more open-phase faults. This makes multiphase machines controlled by FCS-MPC strategies ideal for critical systems that require reliability and excellent dynamic performance. However, existing fault-tolerant FCS-MPC strategies often require significant changes to the control algorithm's structure when transitioning between healthy and fault-tolerant modes. Therefore, this article proposes a new fault-tolerant predictive current control strategy for six-phase PMSM drives, which minimizes reconfiguration requirements and only necessitates adjustment of current references during fault-tolerant operation. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the excellent performance of the proposed method in various open-phase fault scenarios.

Summary: This article presents a hybridized SVPWM algorithm for multiphase two-level VSI, which reduces the computational efforts of the processor and memory space. The algorithm calculates the elements of the vector coefficient inverse matrix once outside the processor and treats them as constant values. By analyzing the durations of switching vectors and optimizing the switching sequences, this algorithm enables the independent generation of multiple output voltage vectors with different characteristics.

Summary: This article introduces a fault-tolerant reconfiguration topology and control strategy for symmetric open-winding multiphase machines. Bidirectional switching devices are used to connect the inverter bridge legs on different ends when an open-circuit fault occurs, thereby regenerating the missing voltage phasors. Furthermore, winding currents are optimized with zero-sequence component injection during fault-tolerant operation to prevent overcurrent issues on the reconfigured bridge legs and maximize torque output capability.

Summary: A novel minimum-copper-loss fault-tolerant control scheme is proposed in this article for open-phase fault and open-switch fault of dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (DT-PMSM) drives. This scheme optimizes all phase currents to be nonsinusoidal waveforms and further reduces copper losses by fully utilizing the remaining healthy switch. The proposed scheme has been theoretically and experimentally proven to reduce copper losses more effectively than existing fault-tolerant schemes for both open-phase fault and open-switch fault in typical DT-PMSM drives with a two-level voltage-source inverter.
