Extracellular vesicle-derived LINC00511 promotes glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation of pancreatic cancer through macrophage polarization by microRNA-193a-3p-dependent regulation of plasminogen activator urokinase

Tingting Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the regulatory role of LINC00511 encapsulated in pancreatic cancer (PCa) cell-derived EVs in the development and progression of PCa. Our findings suggest that LINC00511 affects macrophage polarization through miR-193a-3p-dependent regulation of PLAU expression. Additionally, EV-derived LINC00511 promotes glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation of PCa cells through macrophage polarization, leading to the invasion and migration of PCa cells.

Targeting cancer metabolism in the era of precision oncology

Zachary E. Stine et al.

Summary: In the past century, there have been significant advancements in targeting cancer metabolism, but progress in the past decade has been limited. Some metabolism-based drugs for cancer have been successfully developed and are in clinical trials. However, consideration of the metabolism of non-cancer cells is crucial for successful treatment of cancer.

Advances in the epidemiology of pancreatic cancer: Trends, risk factors, screening, and prognosis

Jie Cai et al.

Summary: Pancreatic cancer has poor prognosis and high mortality rates, leading to increased research on its epidemiology. Advances in the field include trends, risk factors, prediction models, screening methods, and prognosis. Risk factors are related to individual characteristics, lifestyle, environment, and disease status. Prediction models have been developed for populations with new-onset diabetes or family history of pancreatic cancer, but require further validation. Despite progress in screening, more studies are needed to identify high-risk populations and develop effective screening methods.

Pyruvate carboxylase and cancer progression

Violet A. Kiesel et al.

Summary: Pyruvate carboxylase (PC) is a mitochondrial enzyme that plays an essential role in controlling whole-body energetics in nonmalignant tissue and is linked to pulmonary metastasis in breast cancer. Its activity is particularly important in cancer cells unable to utilize glutamine for anaplerosis, and it also plays a role in lipid metabolism and protection from oxidative stress in cancer cells.
