Wound healing properties of a new formulated flavonoid-rich fraction from Dodonaea viscosa Jacq. leaves extract

Shanthi Subramanian et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the wound healing effect of the ethyl acetate fraction of Dodonaea viscosa leaves. The results showed that the ethyl acetate fraction promoted wound contraction, epithelialization, and increased hydroxyproline levels and tensile strength. Histopathological and Western blot analysis demonstrated the promotion of collagen formation and vascularization by the ethyl acetate fraction. These findings suggest that the flavonoid-rich fraction of D. viscosa promotes wound healing by up-regulating the expressions of COL3A, VEGF, and bFGF protein.

Emergence of microneedles as a potential therapeutics in diabetes mellitus

Ishrat Zahoor et al.

Summary: Research has shown that microneedles are a non-invasive, painless method for transdermal insulin delivery, reducing discomfort for patients compared to traditional subcutaneous injections; different types of microneedles, including solid, dissolving, hydrogel, coated, and hollow microneedles, have been developed and several microneedle products are now available in the market.

A European pharmacotherapeutic agent roflumilast exploring integrated preclinical and clinical evidence for SARS CoV-2 mediated inflammation to organ damage

Yogendra Singh et al.

Summary: COVID-19 has affected nearly 160 million people worldwide, with the elderly and pre-existing patients being more susceptible to severe illness. Roflumilast, a PDE4 inhibitor, has shown potential in protecting renal tissues and major organ systems by reducing immune cell infiltration after COVID-19 infection. Its immune-balancing effects are associated with decreased oxidative and inflammatory burden, caspase-3 suppression, and increased PKA/cAMP levels in renal and other organ tissue.

Recent Advancement of Functional Hydrogels toward Diabetic Wound Management

Krishanu Ghosal et al.

Summary: Diabetic wound healing is a dynamic and regulated process, but it becomes dysregulated in diabetic individuals, leading to chronic wounds. The use of hydrogel-based systems has shown promise in treating diabetic wounds due to their favorable properties. This review focuses on the advancement of functional hydrogels for diabetic wound management and discusses different approaches to treat diabetic wounds using hydrogels.

Why Venous Leg Ulcers Have Difficulty Healing: Overview on Pathophysiology, Clinical Consequences, and Treatment

Joseph D. Raffetto et al.

Summary: Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are a common type of ulcer in the lower extremity with significant socioeconomic and psychological impact. The pathogenesis involves factors such as endothelial cell injury and inflammatory responses, while treatment primarily includes compression therapy and endovenous ablation. Proper wound care and therapy usually result in healing within 6 months.

IL-17 in the Pathogenesis of Disease: Good Intentions Gone Awry

Saikat Majumder et al.

Summary: The IL-17 family is an evolutionarily old cytokine family with six members, with IL-17A receiving the most attention for its proinflammatory roles in autoimmune diseases. IL-17 is associated with a wide array of diseases, with surprisingly variable pathologies. Recent advances in understanding the roles of IL-17 in health and disease pathogenesis focus on how its beneficial functions can be diverted towards amplification of deleterious pathways driving chronic diseases.

IL-1β Impaired Diabetic Wound Healing by Regulating MMP-2 and MMP-9 through the p38 Pathway

Jiezhi Dai et al.

Summary: The study revealed that IL-1 beta signaling inhibited cell proliferation and migration of human fibroblasts from diabetic wound tissues, and regulated the expression of MMPs and TIMPs through the p38 MAPK pathway. This indicates a novel mechanism behind delayed wound closure in diabetes mellitus involving IL-1 beta-dependent regulation of cell proliferation and migration.
