Effect of {010} crystal facets of Bi2MoO6 and 1D/2D heterostructures for conductometric room temperature NH3 gas sensors

Kaidi Wu et al.

Summary: Pure Bi2MoO6 nanosheets and one-dimensional/two-dimensional (1D/2D) multi-walled CNTs/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal route for room-temperature ammonia monitoring. The 0.5 wt% MWCNTs/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites showed the best sensing properties, including low detection limit (157 ppb), high response (Ra/Rg = 44.2 @ 50 ppm), selectivity, reproducibility, and anti-humidity sensing ability. The enhanced gas sensing mechanism was proposed based on the synergetic effect of high-energy crystal facets, modified surface characteristics, and p-n heterojunction.

Summary: Cu species (single-atom, clusters, and nanoparticles) with tunable loading are successfully prepared on N-doped TiO2/C using MOFs@CuPc precursors. The restructuration behavior among Cu species depends on Cu loading and reaction potential and exhibits an incompletely reversible transformation. Restructured CuN4&Cu-4 show high NH3 yield and selectivity due to optimal adsorption of NO3- and rapid conversion of *NH2OH to *NH2 intermediates.

Strongly enhanced infrared absorption of HfSe2 monolayer by lanthanide doping: A first-principles study

Haris Habib et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of lanthanide (LN) doping on the electronic, magnetic and optical properties of HfSe2 monolayer was investigated using density functional theory calculations. The results showed that LN doping can alter the ground states of HfSe2 monolayers, where five dopants (La, Nd, Eu, Tm, and Lu) led to the formation of metallic ground states, while Ce and Pr doping maintained the semiconductor properties. Spin polarized calculations revealed that Nd, Eu, Tm, and Pr doping resulted in nonzero magnetic moment, attributed to unpaired f-electrons. Additionally, the LN-doped HfSe2 monolayers with metallic ground states demonstrated enhanced absorption abilities in the infrared region, indicating potential applications in solar energy harvesting. These findings not only demonstrated the possibility of modulating the electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of HfSe2 monolayers through LN doping, but also suggested the application potential of such systems in spintronics, nanoelectronics, and optoelectronics.

First-principles DFT study of structural, electronic and optical properties of Cu-doped TiO2 (112) surface for enhanced visible-light photocatalysis

Shambhu Bhandari Sharma et al.

Summary: First-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations were used to investigate the properties of Cu-doped TiO2 (112) surface and compare them with the bulk phase in an oxygen-rich environment. The pristine surface was found to be stable with an indirect band gap of 2.89 eV. Cu-doping with a concentration of 5.6% resulted in an energy gap of 2.00 eV in the asymmetric spin bands and PDOS, accompanied by induced magnetism. The direct band gap in the Cu-doped systems enhanced photo-absorption and lowered the intensity of dielectric constant, reflectance, and refractive index, making them suitable for optoelectronics and photocatalysis.

Jiang He et al.

Summary: Photothermal reforming of biomass for hydrogen production is a low-carbon and environmentally friendly strategy to utilize waste resources. By synergistic photothermal reforming over Bi2MoO6, α-cellulose can be converted to H2. A-Bi2MoO6 with its atomically thin structure and abundant oxygen vacancies exhibited enhanced catalytic activity, leading to a higher H2 yield compared to N-Bi2MoO6. The temperature promoted reactant activation while light irradiation reduced the activation energy barrier of the reaction.

First-Principles Calculations to Investigate Coupling Fe Doping with Oxygen Vacancies in Stannic Oxide and Their Physical Properties

Sankar Ganesh Ramaraj et al.

Summary: By using density functional theory calculations, we investigated the effects of Fe doping on the structural, electronic conductivity, elastic constants, and thermal conductivity of Sn1-x Fe x O2 (0≤ x ≤1) oxides. We derived an effective spin-pseudospin Hamiltonian on the subspace of states with separately involved t(2g) orbitals at each Fe site and visualized the combined atomic orbitals to form various molecular orbitals. We found that the mixed-valence electrons empowered by Fe2+-O2--Fe3+ pairings dominate at higher doping concentrations through the double exchange-coupled pair.
