CVD controlled preparation and growth mechanism of 2H-WS2 nanosheets

Jiashuo Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, tungsten disulfide (WS2) nanosheets with different morphologies were successfully synthesized using an improved chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The high-quality nanosheets exhibited high crystallization quality and uniform distribution of W and S elements. The formation mechanisms of different morphologies were related to the growth rate of crystal planes and the supersaturation of precursors.

PVD growth of spiral pyramid-shaped WS2 on SiO2/Si driven by screw dislocations

Yassine Madoune et al.

Summary: Atomically thin layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) such as MoS2 and WS2 have attracted much attention due to their interesting electronic and optoelectronic properties. In particular, spiral TMDs offer a variety of materials to study light-matter interaction and potential applications in optoelectronic and nanoelectronic devices. By controlling the growth conditions, the researchers successfully grew spiral pyramid-shaped WS2 nanostructures using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technique. The study provides insights into the growth mechanism of these spiral-patterned WS2 nanostructures, which can have different morphologies and stacking.

Temperature-dependent Raman spectroscopy analysis of single spiral WS2 nanosheets with screw dislocations

Yassine Madoune et al.

Summary: This study presents Raman spectroscopy measurements of SDD-SSP-WS2 samples supported on SiO2/Si at various temperature ranges. The major causes of the non-linear dependency of the Raman mode are identified to be four-phonon scattering and thermal expansion effect. The investigation of the broadening of FWHM A1g mode suggests the decay of the A1g phonon.

Gate-Defined Quantum Confinement in CVD 2D WS2

Chit Siong Lau et al.

Summary: The research revealed that carrier mobility in WS2 devices is influenced by interface roughness rather than the commonly thought charge impurity limit. The use of HfO2 enables the electrostatic gate-defined quantum confinement of quantum dots in WS2 devices, opening up new possibilities for their application in quantum information processing.

Multilayered Vertical Heterostructures Comprised of MoS2 and WS2 Nanosheets for Optoelectronics

Fei Chen et al.

Summary: The synthesis of vertically stacked two-dimensional TMDC heterostructures using a one-step CVD approach has been achieved, offering potential for manipulating their physical characteristics. The novel growth strategy involved the utilization of metallic Mo (or W) foil and WO3 (or MoO3) powder as precursors, resulting in the successful fabrication of two-, three-, and four-layer 2D TMDC van der Waals structures. This method provides an innovative way to apply multilayered heterostructures in various fields, including photodetectors, catalysts, and solar cells.
