Unbiased Screening of Novel Infrared Nonlinear Optical Materials with High Thermal Conductivity: Long-neglected Nitrides and Popular Chalcogenides

Dongdong Chu et al.

Summary: We propose a method for efficient screening of over 140,000 materials to explore novel infrared nonlinear optical (NLO) materials with high thermal conductivity and wide band gap, which are crucial for practical applications in solid-state lasers. Through our screening method, 106 compounds with desired band gaps, NLO coefficients, and thermal conductivity are identified, including the synthesis of Sr2SnS4 to verify the reliability of our process. This strategy provides a powerful tool for searching NLO compounds with high thermal conductivity.

Giant Bulk Electrophotovoltaic Effect in Heteronodal-Line Systems

Xiao Jiang et al.

Summary: Based on a two-band model, we propose a concept of the bulk electrophotovoltaic effect, which can continuously tune the in-plane shift current in a heteronodal-line system. By effectively controlling the radius of the nodal loop, the shift-vector components inside and outside the nodal loop can be continuously modulated, resulting in a giant bulk electrophotovoltaic effect.

Nonlinear optical inorganic sulfates: The improvement of the phase matching ability driven by the structural modulation

Yanran Shang et al.

Summary: Nonlinear optical crystals are crucial for laser applications, as they can expand the tunable range of all-solid-state lasers. Inorganic sulfates have a large band gap and a moderate second harmonic generation response, making them a valuable source of nonlinear optical materials. However, most inorganic sulfates lack sufficient phase matching ability due to the high symmetry of the [SO4] tetrahedron.

Self-Induced Core-Shell InAlN Nanorods: Formation and Stability Unraveled by Ab Initio Simulations

Manoel Alves Machado Filho et al.

Summary: Translated: By using the DFT-based synthetic growth concept, this study explores the formation mechanism of self-induced InAlN core-shell nanorods synthesized by reactive magnetron sputter epitaxy. The study evaluates the characteristics of In- and Al-containing precursor species and finds that In-containing precursors are more prone to dissociation and have lower abundance in the growth environment. The study also examines the incorporation of Al- and In-containing precursor species at the growing edge of the nanorods and correlates it with the experimentally obtained core-shell structure. Additionally, the study shows that the cohesive energies and band gaps of the nanorods decrease with increasing In concentration and overall thickness.

Regulating Guanidinium-Based Hybrid Materials for Ultraviolet Nonlinear Optical Applications by Hybrid Strength and Hybrid Pattern

Xiaomeng Liu et al.

Summary: Through systematic modeling and simulations, it has been demonstrated that organic-inorganic hybrid materials based on guanidinium cations exhibit excellent UV NLO conversion performance, especially for the 266 nm laser output. The UV NLO performance of these materials can be regulated by the hybrid strength and pattern between the guanidinium cations and different inorganic anionic groups, providing potential for exploring new UV NLO materials in the hybrid material system.

Second harmonic generation of MoSi2N4-type layers

Lei Kang et al.

Summary: The study found that differences in structural details of MoSi2N4 may lead to differences in second harmonic generation intensity and response to strain. Second harmonic generation can be used as a simple technique to identify the structural details of this system. Additionally, the study investigated the strain-regulation mechanism of MoSi2N4 derivatives, including anomalous SHG responses under strain for certain derivatives, which differ from other known 2D materials. These findings hold significance for nonlinear optics and optoelectronics research in this novel 2D material system.
