Endoluminal management of colon perforations during advanced endoscopic procedures

Ilker Ozgur et al.

Summary: This study presents the authors' experience in managing iatrogenic colonic perforations through endoscopic closure. Among 964 advanced endoscopic resections, 22 cases (2.3%) experienced colonic perforation, with 18 cases treated with endoscopic clipping. No complications were observed postoperatively, and there was no recurrence during the follow-up period.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection for superficial gastrointestinal lesions: European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) Guideline - Update 2022

Pedro Pimentel-Nunes et al.

Summary: This guideline provides recommendations for the evaluation and treatment of superficial gastrointestinal lesions. It suggests that experienced endoscopists should use high definition white-light and chromoendoscopy for evaluation and recommends endoscopic submucosal dissection for most lesions. Different treatment approaches are suggested for specific situations. The guideline also provides recommendations for post-resection surveillance and treatment.

Hybrid endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) compared with conventional ESD for colorectal lesions: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Thomas R. McCarty et al.

Summary: Hybrid endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is safe and effective for removal of colorectal lesions, with shorter procedure duration, fewer complications, and no significant difference in recurrence and surgery rates compared to conventional ESD; however, it has a lower en bloc resection rate.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection for colorectal neoplasms in proximity or extending to a diverticulum

Takashi Muramoto et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed ESD for lesions at NTT Medical Center Tokyo between 2014 and 2019, classifying lesions based on their proximity or infiltration to a diverticulum, and analyzing the outcomes of different ESD strategies. The findings suggest that ESD for colorectal neoplasms in proximity to or extending into a diverticulum is challenging but can be a safe and effective therapeutic option.

Summary: ESD is a less invasive method for en-bloc resection of neoplastic colorectal lesions. It has lower recurrence rate and higher curative resection rate compared to EMR. However, challenges in performing ESD in Western countries include limited expert providers and unique patient characteristics.

Jennifer S. Lin et al.

Summary: There are multiple screening options for colorectal cancer, each with varying levels of evidence in reducing cancer mortality, detecting cancer or precursor lesions, and risks of harms. This systematic review summarizes published evidence on the benefits and harms of screening for colorectal cancer in asymptomatic, community-dwelling adults to support the 2021 US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation Statement.

Screening for Colorectal Cancer: US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation Statement

Karina W. Davidson et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a significant cause of cancer-related deaths, with high incidence in adults aged 65 to 74. Screening is recommended for adults aged 50 to 75 with substantial net benefit, for those aged 45 to 49 with moderate net benefit, and selective screening is advised for adults aged 76 to 85.
