Dynamic analysis and investigation of the thermal transient effects in a CSTR reactor producing biogas

Francesco Calise et al.

Summary: In the field of primary energy saving, biomethane is increasingly attractive due to the need to manage urban waste and the increasing use of biofuels for sustainability objectives. A thermal transient model developed in MATLAB (R) accurately predicts heat transfer and biological phenomena in an anaerobic digester. The model considers the thermal inertia of the biomass and is linked to the TRNSYS environment for biogas upgrading. Integration of renewables with anaerobic digestion shows significant results, with a 20% overestimation of biogas production when neglecting the thermal inertia of the digester. The primary energy saving in this case study is approximately 5% and the simple payback is less than 10 years.

Understanding farmers' intention and willingness to install renewable energy technology: A solution to reduce the environmental emissions of agriculture

Ehsan Elahi et al.

Summary: This study examines the social acceptance of PV water pumps and the willingness of farmers in rural Pakistan to pay extra for green electricity. The findings suggest that farmers' intentions to install PV water pumps are positively related to attitudes towards environmental protection, subjective norms of sustainable behavior, lack of electricity access, perceived behavior control, and relative advantages. However, the cost of the PV water pump has a negative impact on farmers' installation intentions. The probability of being willing to pay extra for green electricity is influenced by education, household income, lack of access to grid electricity, age, and the cost of green energy technology.

Thermal performance of greenhouse heating with loop heat pipe solar collector and ground source heat pump

Zhi Xu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a hybrid heating system consisting of loop heat pipe solar collector (LHPSC) and ground source heat pump (GSHP) to control greenhouse temperature in Harbin, China. The authors develop a combined thermal resistance network and energy balance model to predict the transient greenhouse temperature based on the energy supplied by the GSHP. The influence of ambient temperature on the thermal performance of the greenhouse heating system is analyzed. The results show that the proposed system can effectively regulate the greenhouse temperature in severely cold regions.
