Path Planning and Obstacle Avoidance Control for Autonomous Multi-Axis Distributed Vehicle Based on Dynamic Constraints

Zhichao Li et al.

Summary: The obstacle avoidance problem in autonomous vehicles, especially in autonomous heavy vehicles, has gained increasing attention due to their high gravity center, large carrying capacity, and promising commercial prospects. However, the dynamic properties of the vehicle are often overlooked in path planning, which poses a significant risk to driving safety. This study proposes an integrated collision avoidance framework that combines a new path planner and a tracking controller to consider multiple dynamic constraints. The upper level focuses on generating an optimal path based on B-splines while optimizing the collision avoidance path considering various dynamic constraints such as tire nonlinear dynamics, lateral stability limits, and anti-slip constraints. The lower level involves designing a path tracking controller using nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) to improve control accuracy and establish a high-fidelity nonlinear dynamic predictive vehicle model. The framework is validated through simulations and HIL tests, demonstrating satisfactory performance in path planning and tracking, taking into account dynamic constraints for safety and stability.

Navigation with Polytopes: A Toolbox for Optimal Path Planning with Polytope Maps and B-spline Curves

Ngoc Thinh Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new toolbox called Navigation with Polytopes to solve the problem of optimal path planning in 2D space. The toolbox allows the creation of a polytopic map from a standard grid map, the search for an optimal corridor, and the planning of a safe B-spline reference path for mobile robot navigation. It proposes a novel calculation method to convert the B-spline path into its equivalent Bezier representation and two different constraint formulations to ensure the path stays within connected polytopes.

CoLD Fusion: A Real-time Capable Spline-based Fusion Algorithm for Collective Lane Detection

Joerg Gamerdinger et al.

Summary: Comprehensive environment perception is crucial for safe operation of autonomous vehicles to detect road users and objects. When accurate localization is not possible or HD maps are unavailable, an autonomous vehicle relies solely on perceived road information. This study proposes a real-time capable approach for collective perception of lanes using spline-based estimation to extend the perception range by up to 200%.

Obstacle-Avoidance Path-Planning Algorithm for Autonomous Vehicles Based on B-Spline Algorithm

Pengwei Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a path-planning approach based on the B-spline algorithm to solve the real-time obstacle avoidance problem of autonomous vehicles on structured roads. The approach improves the B-spline algorithm by analyzing the driver's path planning mechanism and proposing a dynamic risk identification model. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm is effective in avoiding both static and dynamic obstacles, generating collision-free paths that meet real-time requirements and dynamic constraints. Additionally, the proposed algorithm optimizes the path based on the driver's operating characteristics, further improving the safety and comfort of autonomous vehicles.
