Angry and Happy Expressions Affect Forward Gait Initiation Only When Task Relevant

Giovanni Mirabella et al.

Summary: Whole-body movements provide an ecologically valid model to assess emotional stimuli's effect on approach/avoidance reactions. Facial emotional expressions (anger and happiness) were found to alter forward gait initiation parameters differently only when they were relevant for ongoing goals, indicating that their effects depend critically on conscious appraisal.

Facial Expression Recognition in the Wild Using Multi-Level Features and Attention Mechanisms

Yingjian Li et al.

Summary: In this article, we propose a novel Slide-Patch and Whole-Face Attention model with SE blocks (SPWFA-SE) for automatic facial expression recognition. The proposed model achieves effective FER by jointly perceiving the discriminative locality characteristics and informative global features of the face. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on challenging datasets and shows superior generalization performance on other databases. Complexity analysis results also show that our model has fewer parameters and faster training advantages compared to other competing models.

Facial Emotion Recognition Focused on Descriptive Region Segmentation

H. Arabian et al.

Summary: The project examines real-time facial emotion recognition based on local regions of interest and machine learning, achieving high accuracy rates up to 98.44% with different data distributions. The region selection methodology strikes a balance between accuracy and number of extracted features, validating the hypothesis that focusing on smaller informative regions performs as well as the entire image.
