AAD-Net: Advanced end-to-end signal processing system for human emotion detection & recognition using attention-based deep echo state network

Khan Mustaqeem et al.

Summary: This article proposes a Deep Echo-State-Network (DeepESN) system for emotion recognition using a dilated convolutional neural network and multi-headed attention mechanism. The proposed system achieves high recognition rates on two public speech corpora, EMO-DB and RAVDESS, outperforming the State-of-The-Art (SOTA). The system also requires less computational time. Rating: 8/10.

An End-to-End Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network with Multi-Source Data Fusion for Sleep Stage Classification

Tabassum Islam Toma et al.

Summary: In this article, an end-to-end convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN) is developed for automatic sleep stage classification, using multi-source data fusion. The proposed CRNN model can extract time-invariant features from raw data of two input sources and fuse them to learn temporally correlated features. The CRNN model achieves a maximum average accuracy of 90.30% and a maximum Cohen's kappa coefficient of 86.86 on the Sleep-EDF dataset, outperforming other RNN variant models and showing promising potential in the field of sleep stage classification as an alternative to conventional sleep staging.

DeepSleepNet-Lite: A Simplified Automatic Sleep Stage Scoring Model With Uncertainty Estimates

Luigi Fiorillo et al.

Summary: Deep learning is widely used in automatic sleep scoring algorithms, with the newly proposed DeepSleepNet-Lite showing promising performance by utilizing a simplified architecture and the Monte Carlo dropout technique for enhancing performance and detecting uncertain instances. The evaluation on EEG data from the Sleep-EDF database demonstrates competitive performance compared to existing state-of-the-art architectures, with the rejection of uncertain instances leading to improved results. This lighter sleep scoring approach opens up possibilities for real-time application of sleep analysis algorithms.

An Attention-Based Deep Learning Approach for Sleep Stage Classification With Single-Channel EEG

Emadeldeen Eldele et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel deep learning architecture named AttnSleep is proposed for automatic sleep stage classification using single channel EEG signals. The architecture incorporates multi-resolution convolutional neural network (MRCNN) and adaptive feature recalibration (AFR) for feature extraction, as well as a temporal context encoder (TCE) with multi-head attention mechanism to capture temporal dependencies among the extracted features. Evaluation on three public datasets demonstrates that AttnSleep outperforms state-of-the-art techniques in various evaluation metrics.
