Evaluation of the influence of rice husk amendment on compost quality in the composting of sewage sludge

Summary: This study examined the impact of rice husk addition on compost quality and maturity in sewage sludge composting. Changes in compost quality and physicochemical factors were monitored, including pH, temperature, moisture content, electrical conductivity, total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), and carbon to nitrogen ratio (C/N). In the pile containing 25% rice husk, the lowest losses were observed for TOC (52.49%) and TN (23.24%), while the final compost had a C/N ratio of 18.82, indicating maturity and quality. The moisture content of the final composts was 50.72% in the control group, 31.73% in the reactor with 10% rice husk, and 28.18% in the reactor with 25% rice husk, suggesting that rice husk addition helped reduce moisture content and balance the C/N ratio in sewage sludge composting.

The Effect of Yeast, Sugar and Sulfur Dioxide on the Volatile Compounds in Wine

Effect of biochar amendment on compost quality, gaseous emissions and pathogen reduction during in-vessel composting of chicken manure
