Charge-Transfer Dynamics in OLEDs with Coexisting Electroplex and Exciton States

Yaru Ning et al.

Summary: Researchers have observed abnormal current-dependent reverse intersystem-crossing (RISC) and the conversion from ISC to RISC in different donor:acceptor heterojunction OLEDs, through magnetoelectroluminescence measurements. The results provide a better understanding of charge-transfer states and pave the way for utilizing electroplex states in the design of highly efficient OLEDs.

Observation of Reverse Intersystem-Crossing From the Upper-Level Triplet to Lowest Singlet Excitons (T2→S1) in Tetra(t-butyl)rubrene-Based OLEDs for Enhanced Light-Emission

Ying Wang et al.

Summary: A recent study revealed that OLEDs based on tetra(t-butyl)rubrene exhibit high external quantum efficiency, attributed to the strength of the high-level reverse intersystem-crossing process in the material, especially at low temperatures. Additionally, tetra(t-butyl)rubrene demonstrates higher efficiency in OLEDs compared to rubrene-doped systems.

Suppressing singlet-triplet annihilation processes to achieve highly efficient deep-blue AIE-based OLEDs

Chengwei Lin et al.

Summary: Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) materials are attractive for high-efficiency organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) due to their ability to harness hot excitons and high photoluminescence efficiency. However, current AIE-based OLEDs suffer from unrevealed exciton loss processes, limiting their electroluminescence efficiency. This study enhances the efficiency of blue AIE-based OLEDs by suppressing singlet-triplet annihilation (STA) through the use of triplet-triplet annihilation up-conversion. The resulting deep-blue AIE-based OLEDs achieve a high external quantum efficiency and negligible efficiency roll-off.

Efficiency Breakthrough of Fluorescence OLEDs by the Strategic Management of Hot Excitons at Highly Lying Excitation Triplet Energy Levels

Chengwei Lin et al.

Summary: The study investigates the hot exciton process between high-lying triplet state and lowest excited singlet state in AIE material TPB-PAPC and demonstrates the improvement in efficiency with Forster resonance energy transfer. Doping a blue fluorescent emitter aids in inhibiting losses and achieving high EQE in blue OLEDs, both in AIE and HLCT materials, leading to efficiency breakthroughs in blue fluorescence OLEDs.

Are the rates of dexter transfer in TADF hyperfluorescence systems optically accessible?

Nils Haase et al.

Summary: Although initially appearing to be consistent with Dexter quenching of the TADF triplet state, further investigation showed that this is not the case. While Dexter quenching by the fluorescent emitter is still likely a significant loss mechanism in devices, it was found to be inoperative under optical excitation. These results highlight a limitation of optical spectroscopy in characterizing hyperfluorescent systems.
