High-Temperature Synthesis of Carbon-Supported Bimetallic Nanocluster Catalysts by Enlarging the Interparticle Distance

Lu-Jie Zuo et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple and scalable method to synthesize bimetallic nanocluster catalysts with small size and enhanced performance by using a large-surface-area carbon black support at high temperatures. The strategy involves high-temperature treatments to ensure the formation of alloyed bimetallic nanoparticles and enlargement of the interparticle distance to suppress metal sintering. The prepared ultrafine Pt2Sn and RuSn nanocluster catalysts exhibit superior catalytic performance in various reactions.

The influence of doping amount on the catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde by Mn-CeO2 mixed oxide catalyst: A combination of DFT and microkinetic study

Weiyu Song et al.

Summary: The Mn-doped CeO2 catalyst has good catalytic performance for the oxidation of formaldehyde, with the catalytic activity being effectively tuned by changing the amount of metal doping. It was found that highly dispersed Mn doped ceria dominated at low Mn content, leading to higher catalytic oxidation activity of formaldehyde.

Fully exposed palladium cluster catalysts enable hydrogen production from nitrogen heterocycles

Chunyang Dong et al.

Summary: The size of supported metal species has a significant impact on their catalytic activity, but the structure sensitivity at the atomic scale has not been well understood. In this study, the catalytic contribution of various surface palladium species in a specific reaction was quantified. The results show that fully exposed palladium clusters are the optimal sites for the reaction, while palladium single atoms are almost inactive. Therefore, constructing fully exposed metal clusters without spectators can maximize the reactivity and atomic efficiency of noble metals.

Fully Exposed Platinum Clusters on a Nanodiamond/Graphene Hybrid for Efficient Low-Temperature CO Oxidation

Zhimin Jia et al.

Summary: A fundamental understanding of active sites in heterogeneous catalysts is crucial for the development of effective catalysts. In this study, different forms of Pt species were prepared on a nanodiamond/graphene support, and it was found that the atomically dispersed and fully exposed Pt clusters had the highest utilization efficiency of low-coordinated metal sites. The 0.5 wt% Pt-n/ND@G catalyst showed superior catalytic performance for CO oxidation at low temperature compared to single-atom and nanoparticle catalysts, which was attributed to the weakened CO adsorption and facilitated O2 dissociative adsorption on these atomically dispersed and fully exposed Pt cluster catalysts.

Pt-Ru bimetallic nanoparticles anchored on carbon nanotubes/polyaniline composites with coral-like structure for enhanced methanol oxidation

Xiaoling Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, Pt-Ru bimetallic nanoparticles/polyaniline/multi-walled carbon nanotube composites (PRPM) were fabricated to improve the stability and utilization efficiency of Pt catalysts. Structural characterization and performance testing showed that Pt10Ru1/PANI/CNTs catalyst exhibited higher mass activity and lower onset potential, indicating its potential application in fuel cells.

Maximizing the synergistic effect of PdAu catalysts on TiO2(101) for robust CO2 reduction: A DFT study

Mingyue Zheng et al.

Summary: The introduction of a secondary metal (Au) to supported Pd catalyst and controlling Au concentration can affect the binding energy of reactants and alter the dominant reaction pathway. The energetically preferred path for CO2 reduction on Pd8-xAux/TiO2 changes as a function of the binding energy of the initial reactant CO2* or the adsorption energy difference between CHO* and CO* in the RWGS + CO HYD pathway. Additionally, there is a component-dependent relationship between the water-promotion effect and the nanoalloy structure.

Improved Pd/CeO2 Catalysts for Low-Temperature NO Reduction: Activation of CeO2 Lattice Oxygen by Fe Doping

Long Zhang et al.

Summary: Developing better three-way catalysts with improved low-temperature performance is crucial for cold start emission control. Research shows that N2O formation can be reduced and N-2 selectivity can be improved at low temperatures by combining metal Pd and CeO2 in reactions; it is predicted that doping CeO2 with Fe can increase oxygen vacancies and lower the onset temperature of N-2 formation for a Pd catalyst supported on Fe-doped CeO2 prepared by flame spray pyrolysis.

Yanqiu Wang et al.

Summary: The use of supported Pd catalysts with PdZn alloy on ZnO-enriched support is an effective strategy for efficient CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The amount of formed PdZn alloy and catalyst structure influenced by ZnO concentration on ZnFe2O4 were explored to obtain the best Pd-Z(1)FO catalyst, achieving high methanol space-time yield (STY).
