Perspectives on spintronics with surface acoustic waves

J. Puebla et al.

Summary: Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) are elastic waves propagating on the surface of solids with the amplitude decaying into the solid. SAWs can manipulate the magnetization states by magnetostriction and magnetoelastic effects. This review discusses the characteristics of SAW devices and their interaction with the magnetization in thin films.

Hybrid Magnonics for Short-Wavelength Spin Waves Facilitated by a Magnetic

Jerad Inman et al.

Summary: This study presents an experiment on the hybridization of 250-nm-wavelength magnons with microwave photons. The coupling between magnon modes in a magnetic bilayer and the photon mode in a planar cavity allows for the excitation and hybridization of short-wavelength spin waves. The demonstrated magnon-photon coupling approaches the superstrong coupling regime and can even be achieved near zero bias field.

Impact of Spin-Wave Dispersion on Surface-Acoustic-Wave Velocity

Pauline Rovillain et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the dependence of the velocity of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) on an external applied magnetic field in a Fe thin film epitaxially grown on a piezoelectric GaAs substrate. We find that the SAW velocity strongly depends on both the amplitude and direction of the magnetic field. By considering the spin-wave dispersion, we are able to successfully reproduce the experimental velocity variation. We also address the nonreciprocity of SAW velocity both experimentally and theoretically.

Acoustically Driven Ferromagnetic Resonance in Diverse Ferromagnetic Thin Films

Derek A. Bas et al.

Summary: This study reports the first investigation of diverse ferromagnetic thin films using acoustically driven ferromagnetic resonance (ADFMR). Each magnetic material exhibits a unique ADFMR signature, showcasing different signal patterns and characteristics. The results demonstrate that strain-driven magnetization dynamics is a dynamic field with unexpected behavior in a variety of materials, highlighting the need for further research in this area.
