High-performance n-type CoSb3-based thermoelectric material with vortex and strip-shaped grain structures

Zhiyuan Liu et al.

Summary: A high-performance N-type filled skutterudite with vortex and strip-shaped grain structures was fabricated using rapid quenching and annealing combined with spark plasma sintering. The specific grain structures were formed due to long-term annealing and rapid high-pressure sintering of layered and porous grains in the quenched sample. The resulting structure ensured a carrier transport channel, maintained a high Seebeck coefficient, and provided a low lattice thermal conductivity, resulting in a record-high figure of merit ZT of 1.4 in the range of 650-850 K for Ba0.3In0.3Co4Sb12.

Bidimensional SnSe2-Mesoporous Ordered Titania Heterostructures for Photocatalytically Activated Anti-Fingerprint Optically Transparent Layers

Jessica De Santis et al.

Summary: The design of functional coatings for touchscreens and haptic interfaces is crucial in electronic devices. This study developed photoactivated anti-fingerprint coatings by incorporating 2D-SnSe2 nanoflakes into ordered mesoporous titania thin films. The resulting heterostructures showed enhanced ability to remove fingerprints and improved photocatalytic activity. The addition of SnSe2 did not affect the self-assembly process and the three-dimensional pore structure of the films. Furthermore, exposure of the films to sunlight and UV light completely eliminated fingerprints, suggesting potential applications in self-cleaning mechanisms.

Anisotropy engineering in solution-derived nanostructured Bi2Te3 thin films for high-performance flexible thermoelectric devices

Jigui Shi et al.

Summary: Flexible thermoelectric technology has the potential to convert human body heat into electricity for wearable devices. However, achieving both high flexibility and performance remains a challenge. In this study, an anisotropy engineering strategy using nanostructuring and excess Te addition was proposed to overcome this challenge. Patchwork-like Bi(2)Te(2.7)Se(0.)3 nanorods were prepared using a two-step solution-synthesis method and assembled into flexible thin films. By optimizing the anisotropy and interfacial properties, a high power factor and power density were achieved in the TE devices. This research demonstrates the potential of anisotropy engineering in advancing flexible thermoelectric devices.

Summary: In this study, the structural and thermoelectric properties of a composite material synthesized by sol-gel method were reported. The composite, composed of two different materials in a 50:50 weight ratio, exhibited a large power factor and low thermal conductivity. The Seebeck coefficients, electrical resistivity, and thermal conductivity increased monotonically with temperature until a certain point, and then decreased gradually. The calculated figure-of-merit (ZT) showed an increasing trend with temperature, and the maximum ZT value was nearly three times larger than that of a previously reported material.
