Machine-learning based prediction of small molecule-surface interaction potentials

Ian Rouse et al.

Summary: Predicting the adsorption affinity of small molecules to a target surface is challenging due to the complexity of considering the effects of the surrounding medium. In this study, a flexible machine-learning approach is proposed to predict potentials of mean force (PMFs) and adsorption energies for chemical-surface pairs. The model is trained using a pre-existing library of PMFs obtained from molecular dynamics simulations, showing good agreement between observed and predicted PMFs and the ability to predict PMFs for molecules and surfaces outside the training set.

Toxicity of Nanoparticles in Biomedical Application: Nanotoxicology

Chukwuebuka Egbuna et al.

Summary: This review provides a comprehensive update on the toxic effects of nanoparticles, the factors underlying their toxicity, and the mechanisms by which toxicity is induced. Recent studies have shown that nanoparticles can lead to serious health effects when exposed to the body through ingestion, inhalation, and skin contact without caution. The toxicity of nanoparticles depends on properties such as their nature, size, surface area, shape, aspect ratio, surface coating, crystallinity, dissolution, and agglomeration.

Atomistic simulations of gold surface functionalization for nanoscale biosensors applications

Sutapa Dutta et al.

Summary: A wide class of biosensors can be built by functionalizing gold surfaces with proper bio conjugation elements, and the detection can be done optically, mechanically or electrically. The optimization of these sensors may require multiple experiments to determine suitable experimental conditions for immobilization and detection of analytes. Results from the study suggest that increasing linker density can increase the amount of biotin molecules accessible for binding, and a 1:1 ratio at high density can further improve accessibility due to repulsion between linker chains and different hydrophobicity levels.

Design of peptides with strong binding affinity to poly(methyl methacrylate) resin by use of molecular simulation-based materials informatics

Tomio Iwasaki et al.

Summary: By utilizing materials informatics technology and molecular dynamics simulation, peptides with strong binding affinities for PMMA resin were designed to cover the resin surface, aiming to create eco-friendly and biocompatible biomaterials. By analyzing simulation data, it was found that three peptides containing arginine, tryptophan, and proline exhibited strong binding affinities to PMMA resin components. Experimental verification confirmed the strong binding affinities of these peptides.
