A comparison between multivariate linear model and maximum likelihood estimation for the prediction of elemental composition of coal using proximate analysis

Fuguo Liu

Summary: This study developed methods for estimating the elemental composition of coal using proximate analysis and the higher heating value, as well as a novel multivariate linear model (MLM) and maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) approach. The proposed methods can accurately predict the elemental composition of coal and have been validated with a set of data. The study also found a significant finding regarding nitrogen content prediction.
