Tectonic Controls on Magmatic Tempo in an Active Continental Margin: Insights From the Early Cretaceous Syn-Tectonic Magmatism in the Changle-Nan'ao Belt, South China

Late Mesozoic basin evolution in NE China and its surrounding areas, mechanisms of the continental-scale extensional regime in East Asia during the Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous

Summary: Investigating the tectonostratigraphic evolution of Late Mesozoic basins in NE China and its surrounding areas provides insights into the intraplate tectonic stress regime in East Asia and its relationship with plate margin tectonic processes. This study analyzes the stratigraphic and structural evolution of these basins during the Late Mesozoic and identifies intermittent extension and short-lived compressive deformation events. The switches between extension and contraction suggest a new tectonic interpretation. Continental collision and indentation likely played a role in driving the tectonic setting and magmatism in East Asia during the Late Mesozoic.

Coupling between Cenozoic extensional exhumation in North China and the subduction of the Pacific Plate

Summary: In this study, we present 22 new apatite (U-Th)/He data from the Yanshan Mountains. Age-elevation profiles reveal a period of rapid exhumation starting at -27-26 Ma, while the AHe ages increase with distance from the fault and correspond to northwestward tilting of the fault footwall. By combining regional tectonic events with the process of Pacific plate subduction, we propose that the late Oligocene rapid exhumation represents a phase of Cenozoic re-destruction of the North China Craton and is related to the retreat, dehydration, and decarbonization of the underlying Pacific slab.

Multiple-Stage Neoproterozoic Magmatism Recorded in the Zhangbaling Uplift of the Northeastern Yangtze Block: Evidence from Zircon Ages and Geochemistry

Summary: This study presents the zircon U-Pb ages, Hf isotopic composition, and geochemical and Nd-Pb isotopic compositions of meta-volcanic rocks in the Zhangbaling uplift of the NE Yangtze Block. The results indicate that the volcanic rocks formed between ca. 790 Ma and ca. 760-700 Ma, suggesting a prolonged subduction along the northeastern margin of the Yangtze Block.

Paleo-Pacific subduction in Southeast Vietnam: Evidence from Late Cretaceous intrusive rocks in the Dalat zone

Summary: The Dalat zone in Southeast Vietnam plays a significant role in the Paleo-Pacific subduction system, and the petrology and geochemical characteristics of the gabbros and granitoids in this zone provide insights into its subduction history. The gabbros in this region have an age of approximately 93 Ma and show characteristics similar to the Cretaceous mafic rocks in the Coastal South China. The granitoids in the Dalat zone formed at 103-93 Ma and exhibit affinities to juvenile crust with arc-like geochemical characteristics.

The nature of Paleoproterozoic basement in the northern Yangtze and its geological implication

Superposition of two orthogonal transpressions: An example from the oblique convergent margin adjoining the Tan-Lu Fault Zone, eastern China

Summary: Deformation in oblique convergent margins, especially non-plane deformation in decollement belts within such a margin, is studied in this article using the northern Zhangbaling tectonic belt as an example. The study reveals that non-plane deformation in the decollement belt is mainly caused by horizontal decollement shearing and wrenching, with different shear directions in different parts. The kinematic partitioning of this non-plane deformation in the tectonic belt is also different from strain partitioning in plane deformation.

Late Mesozoic to Cenozoic exhumation of the SE South China Block: Constraints from zircon and apatite fission-track thermochronology

Summary: This study reconstructed the cooling history of NE-trending mountain ranges in southwest Fujian using zircon and apatite fission-track thermochronometers and identified two episodes of accelerated cooling events. The first event occurred in the late Early Cretaceous and was related to the formation of the basin-and-range system, while the second event occurred in the late Neogene and was associated with the intensification of the East Asian Monsoon and extensional tectonics. Additionally, the sharp discrepancy in apatite fission track ages across the Zhenghe-Dapu Fault zone suggests the collapse of the late Mesozoic coastal magmatic arc in the early Eocene. This study explores the underlying mechanisms of these tectonic events.
