Graphene-reinforced metal matrix composites: fabrication, properties, and challenges

Dongju Chen et al.

Summary: Graphene has excellent mechanical and lubricant properties, making it an ideal enhanced phase for high-performance composites. Graphene metal matrix composites with good structural mechanical and tribological properties have wide applications in aerospace, automotive, electronics, and biomedical fields. However, challenges exist in preparing high-performance metal matrix composites, such as poor wettability between graphene and metal matrix, and weak interfacial bonding strength.

Analysis of the friction and wear of graphene reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites using machine learning models

Md Syam Hasan et al.

Summary: The addition of graphene to aluminum-based metal matrix composites resulted in notable enhancements in mechanical properties, friction, and wear performance. Even a lesser amount of graphene reinforcement was found to produce similar friction and wear performance compared to composites with higher amounts of graphite.

Fabrication and Characterization of Aluminum-Graphene Nano-Platelets-Nano-Sized Al4C3 Composite

Rumyana Lazarova et al.

Summary: Reinforcement of aluminum and aluminum alloys with graphene has been extensively studied in the past decade. In this study, aluminum-graphene-nano-sized Al4C3 composites were produced and investigated. Nano-sized carbides were found at the interface of aluminum-graphene. The formation of a chemical bond between aluminum and graphene during annealing was confirmed.

First-Principles Study on Graphene/Mg2Si Interface of Selective Laser Melting Graphene/Aluminum Matrix Composites

Zhanyong Zhao et al.

Summary: The interface between graphene and Mg2Si exhibits small interfacial adhesion work and large interfacial energy, primarily maintained by strong van der Waals force. There are no chemical bonds formed at the Gr/Mg2Si interface. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid the Gr/Mg2Si interface in the preparation of Gr/AlSi10Mg composites.
