Dynamic amplification factor of multi-span simply supported beam bridge under traffic flow

Cuipeng Xia et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the dynamic amplification factor (DAF) of simply supported bridges under complex traffic flow. It finds that the DAF increases with worse road roughness. Additionally, the DAF of the first span in a multi-span bridge is higher than that of a single vehicle. Sparse traffic flow has a higher DAF compared to moderate and dense traffic flow due to the closer driving speed to the bridge's resonant speed and smaller vibration disharmony among multiple vehicles. Moreover, the greater the deceleration of traffic, the larger the dynamic impact on the bridge.

Structural Health Monitoring of a Brazilian Concrete Bridge for Estimating Specific Dynamic Responses

Enrico Zacchei et al.

Summary: A 3D coupled model was developed in this study to simulate vehicle-bridge interactions and estimate the structural responses and impact factors. Structural health monitoring data from a real bridge were used to calibrate the finite element bridge model. Numerical equations were developed to account for the effects of asymmetric two-axle vehicles. By combining the monitoring data with numerical and analytical models, a more appropriate response for safety and maintenance purposes can be obtained.

A Dynamic Partitioning Method to solve the vehicle-bridge interaction problem

Charikleia D. Stoura et al.

Summary: This paper presents a Dynamic Partitioning Method (DPM) for solving the vehicle-bridge interaction (VBI) problem using a set of second-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The method introduces auxiliary contact bodies, dynamic representation of motion constraints, and reduces computational cost in numerical applications for large vehicle-bridge systems. Compared to existing methods, DPM is both accurate and cost-efficient in handling VBI problems.

Fatigue assessment based on hot-spot stresses obtained from the global dynamic analysis and local static sub-model

Cristiane Oliveira Viana et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the fatigue process in a critical detail through dynamic analysis of the global structural model and local static sub-modelling using the hot-spot stress approach. The proposed methodology combines modal analysis with modal superposition method to determine temporal stresses and evaluate fatigue life. IIW recommendations were found to be more conservative compared to Eurocode EN 1993-1-9, highlighting the importance of global-local modeling for fatigue evaluation in welded joints.
