Microstructure and texture of severely warm-rolled and annealed coarse-grained CoCrNi medium entropy alloy (MEA): A perspective on the initial grain size effect

J. Saha et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructure and texture formations in a coarse-grained starting material and a fine-grained starting material of equiatomic CoCrNi MEA after severe warm-rolling and annealing. The results showed that both materials developed an ultrafine microstructure with limited effect of starting grain size on microstructure and texture formation. The annealed specimens exhibited a remarkable strength-ductility balance due to the ultrafine microstructure and solid solution strengthening.

Effects of elasticity and dislocation core structure on the interaction of dislocations with embedded CNTs in aluminium: An atomistic simulation study

Samaneh Nasiri et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between edge dislocations and carbon nanotubes embedded into an Al matrix. It is found that the embedded carbon nanotubes contribute to a stress similar to that of non-shearable inclusions bypassed through the Orowan mechanism. However, the strain hardening mechanism associated with multiple dislocation passes shows strong effects of the atomistic core structure on the CNT-metal interface, dislocation lock formation and annihilation, jog formation, and shedding of prismatic dislocation loops.

Pinning of extended dislocations in atomically disordered crystals

Aviral Vaid et al.

Summary: There is renewed interest in studying the behavior of dislocations in crystals with strong atomic scale disorder, particularly in compositionally complex alloys. This article discusses modifications to the existing framework of elastic manifold pinning to accommodate extended dislocations that split into widely separated partials. The study also investigates the effect of stacking faults on the behavior of dislocations and explores how geometrical constraints can enhance pinning stress.

Interaction mechanism of an edge dislocation with a void in Fe-Ni-Cr concentrated solid-solution alloy

Yan-Kun Dou et al.

Summary: The interactions between a 1/2 <110> {111} edge dislocation and a void in Fe10Ni20Cr and Fe33Ni33Cr concentrated solid-solution alloys were studied using molecular dynamics simulation. It was found that the dislocation motion becomes more difficult in Fe33Ni33Cr alloy due to larger fluctuations in stacking fault energy compared to Fe10Ni20Cr alloy. However, Fe33Ni33Cr alloy exhibits better irradiation hardening resistance than Fe10Ni20Cr alloy, especially at high temperatures.

Diffusion-mediated chemical concentration variation and void evolution in ion-irradiated NiCoFeCr high-entropy alloy

Zhe Fan et al.

Summary: It was found in the study of high-entropy alloys under ion irradiation that the matrix chemical concentration changes significantly at different depths, possibly due to the preferential diffusion of vacancies and the impact of structural damage.
