Laser surface polishing of Ti-6Al-4V parts manufactured by laser powder bed fusion

Muhannad Ahmed Obeidi et al.

Summary: The poor surface quality of Additively Manufactured (AM) components can increase the overall cost and lead time of high-performance components. In this study, Ti-6Al-4V Grade 23 ELI parts manufactured through L-PBF process were treated with CO2 laser polishing to reduce the average surface roughness and peak-to-valley distance significantly.

Surface integrity in laser-assisted machining of Ti6Al4V

O. Kalantari et al.

Summary: Laser-assisted machining (LAM) can improve surface quality and cutting tool life by locally heating the workpiece to soften the material and reduce machining forces. Experimental results show that cutting speed has an inverse effect on the effectiveness of LAM process, while increasing cutting depth and feed directly impact process temperature and surface quality.

Summary: This research investigates the micro-mechanical behavior of the superficial layer synthesized on Ti64 alloy by electric discharge machining. The study reveals that the brittle structure of the superficial layer reduces mechanical performance, requiring post-surface treatments for better product performance.
