Retrospective evaluation of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in 68 dogs

Karsten E. Schober et al.

Summary: This study investigated signalment, clinical signs, diagnostic findings, and survival in dogs with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The results showed that small breed dogs were more likely to develop HCM, and most dogs presented with exercise intolerance and syncope. The majority of dogs had left ventricular hypertrophy, and systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction were common diagnostic findings. While uncommon, dogs with HCM may experience sudden death or develop congestive heart failure.

Summary: Endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) is an invasive procedure commonly used for monitoring heart transplant rejection and diagnosing various cardiac disorders. Advances in EMB equipment and techniques have improved diagnostic precision. An expert consensus document provides a comprehensive overview on EMB, covering practical approaches, updated indications, revised surveillance plans, the impact of multimodality imaging, and current global clinical practices.
