The development of COVID-19 treatment

Yongliang Yuan et al.

Summary: The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 has led to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is the greatest global public health threat of this century. Recent studies have revealed many mysteries of SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis, greatly enhancing the research on COVID-19 vaccines and therapies. However, significant questions remain regarding its treatment.

Hybrid discrete-time-continuous-time models and a SARS CoV-2 mystery: Sub-Saharan Africa's low SARS CoV-2 disease burden

Nourridine Siewe et al.

Summary: In this study, we found that most epidemiological mathematical models are formulated in continuous-time interval. Therefore, we developed parameterized hybrid discrete-time-continuous-time models to study the COVID-19 infections in Cameroon and New York State. Our findings highlight the importance of matching the time scale of a data-driven mathematical model with the actual data reporting.

When New York City was the COVID-19 pandemic epicenter: The impact on trauma care

Anna Liveris et al.

Summary: During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, trauma visits decreased overall, but there was an increase in the proportion of penetrating injuries. Less severely injured non-COVID patients experienced an increase in mortality, possibly due to a strain on human and hospital resources from the large number of COVID patients.

How do the contaminated environment influence the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 pandemic?

Kankan Sarkar et al.

Summary: In this study, a nonlinear mathematical model for analyzing the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 in India was proposed, taking into account the contamination of the environment by infected individuals. The analysis revealed that the stability of the infection-free steady state depends on the basic reproduction number, with a significant outbreak occurring if it exceeds unity. Numerical illustrations showed that an increased rate of environment contamination leads to an increase in the number of infected persons, but disinfection can prevent a drastic increase in infections.

Mathematical analysis of the global dynamics of a HTLV-I infection model, considering the role of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes

Subhas Khajanchi et al.

Summary: This study investigates a mathematical model for the CD8+ T-cell response to HTLV-I infection, revealing three biologically feasible equilibria and showing that the local and global dynamics are determined by the threshold parameters R-0 and R1. The model predicts different outcomes for HTLV-I response and infection based on the values of R-0 and R1, highlighting the importance of these parameters in understanding the dynamics of CTL response to HTLV-I infections in vivo.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of social media advertisements and local awareness in controlling COVID-19, with simulation results showing that dissemination rate of awareness plays a pivotal role in curtailing the disease. The combination of global information and local awareness is beneficial in reducing COVID-19 cases, suggesting that both global and local awareness must be effectively implemented to manage the pandemic burden.
