Assessing the impacts of short-course multidrug-resistant tuberculosis treatment in the Southeast Asia Region using a mathematical modeling approach

Win Min Han et al.

Summary: Shorter duration treatment regimens for MDR-TB can reduce overall TB incidence but have a modest impact on the percentage of MDR-TB among new TB infections. Introducing short-course regimens for treating MDR-TB can slow down the development of resistance compared to standard treatment regimens. Further research on programmatic factors affecting the impacts of short-course treatment regimens is needed to inform policies addressing antimicrobial resistance in the region.
