Those working in the informal sector and children who are not in school or employed are at higher risk of unsuccessful treatment outcomes. Social determinants such as inadequate food, stigma, and lack of social protection are also key factors affecting TB care in the region.

Introducing short-course regimens for treating MDR-TB can slow down the development of resistance compared to standard treatment regimens. Further research on programmatic factors affecting the impacts of short-course treatment regimens is needed to inform policies addressing antimicrobial resistance in the region.
