Identification, Characterization and Expression Profiling of the RS Gene Family during the Withering Process of White Tea in the Tea Plant (Camellia sinensis) Reveal the Transcriptional Regulation of CsRS8

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, nine CsRSs were identified from the tea plant genome database and classified into five groups in the phylogenetic tree. Expression level analysis showed that the CsRSs varied in different parts of the tea plant. Transcriptome data showed that CsRSs could respond to persistent drought and cold acclimation. Except for CsRS5 and CsRS9, the expression pattern of all CsRSs increased at 12 h and decreased at 30 h during the withering process of white tea, consistent with the change trend of the Raf content. Furthermore, combining yeast one-hybrid assays with expression analysis, we found that CsDBB could potentially regulate the expression of CsRS8. Our results provide a new perspective for further research into the characterization of CsRS genes and the formation of the white tea flavour.

VviRafS5 Is a Raffinose Synthase Involved in Cold Acclimation in Grapevine Woody Tissues

Henrique Noronha et al.

Summary: The accumulation of raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) is a critical response of plants to abiotic stresses, including cold. This study investigated the role of galactinol synthases (GolS) and raffinose synthases (RafS) in the cold response of grapevine woody tissues. Results showed that cold acclimation led to an increase in sugar content and abscisic acid (ABA) levels, and VviRafS5 was identified as a key player in grapevine cold response. The study suggests that ABA accumulation upregulates VivRafS5, leading to raffinose synthesis.

Effect of Drought Stress on Potato Production: A Review

Muhammad Waqar Nasir et al.

Summary: Potato is the third most consumed crop globally, but its production is susceptible to yield loss due to increasing drought severity. While root depth is considered the main factor affecting potato drought susceptibility, this review highlights the importance of genotype type, developmental stage, and duration and severity of drought stress. The study provides insight into potato's varying response to drought and suggests improving agronomic practices to mitigate drought stress.

An Insight into Abiotic Stress and Influx Tolerance Mechanisms in Plants to Cope in Saline Environments

Zarmina Gul et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the growth and development of plants under abiotic stress, particularly salt stress. Plants respond to salt stress by regulating ion homeostasis, activating stress pathways, modulating hormone signaling, and altering cell dynamics. The review discusses the adverse effects of salt stress on plants and the physiological mechanisms of salt tolerance, as well as current methodologies and techniques for improving plant salt tolerance. It emphasizes the importance of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in mitigating stressors and highlights the potential of genetically modified plants in increasing crop growth in saline environments.

Transcriptome analysis reveals the proline metabolic pathway and its potential regulation TF-hub genes in salt-stressed potato

Quankai Jing et al.

Summary: This study conducted RNA-seq analysis on test-tube plantlets of DM potato treated with 200-mM NaCl to simulate salt stress. The majority of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found in the proline metabolic pathway, with 13 structural DEGs significantly up-regulated under salt stress and increased proline accumulation. Further analysis identified 13 TF-hub genes highly correlated with proline contents, including a potential novel regulatory gene StGLK014720. The dual-luciferase reporter assay confirmed the activation of key protein StGLK014720 on the promoters of structural genes StAST021010 and StAST017480. These results provide a foundation for studying the salt tolerance mechanism and breeding of salt-tolerant potato.

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of Raffinose synthetase family in cotton

Ruifeng Cui et al.

Summary: This study identified 74 RAFS genes from G. hirsutum, G. barbadense, G. arboreum and G. raimondii, and found that the gene family could be divided into four major clades. The gene structure was relatively conservative, and some genes might be regulated by gibberellins and abscisic acid. Transcriptome analysis suggested that genes in clade III are highly expressed in organs such as seed, root, cotyledon, ovule and fiber, and are involved in resistance to abiotic stress. Gene co-expression network analysis showed that key genes like GhRFS2A-GhRFS6A, GhRFS6D, GhRFS7D, and GhRFS8A-GhRFS11A have high expression levels under salt, drought, cold and heat stress.

Galactinol synthase confers salt-stress tolerance by regulating the synthesis of galactinol and raffinose family oligosaccharides in poplar

Ling Liu et al.

Summary: Plants respond to abiotic stress through transcriptional and metabolic adjustments, with Raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) and the key enzyme galactinol synthase (GolS) playing crucial roles. The GolS of Populus trichocarpa shares common features with GolS proteins in other plants and contains stress-responsive elements in its promoter region. Overexpressing AtGolS2 and PtrGolS3 in poplar enhances stress tolerance and increases the accumulation of stress-related metabolites, suggesting these genes as potential candidates for improving abiotic stress tolerance in woody plants.
