A TNBS-Induced Rodent Model to Study the Pathogenic Role of Mechanical Stress in Crohn's Disease

Ramasatyaveni Geesala et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as Crohn's disease (CD), are chronic inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. The pathogenesis of CD is not well understood, and current studies mainly focus on dysregulated gut immune response mechanisms. Mechanical stress may play an independent role in CD, but its exact impact is not defined. A TNBS-induced CD-like colitis model in rodents has been developed to study the pathogenic mechanisms, particularly the role of mechanical stress and mechanical stress-induced gene expression in immune dysregulation, intestinal fibrosis, and tissue remodeling in CD.

Summary: The consumption of coffee has been found to be beneficial for postoperative ileus. This study investigated the mechanisms behind these benefits and found that coffee stimulates gut smooth muscle contractions and inhibits gut microbiota.

An opioid receptor-independent mechanism underlies motility dysfunction and visceral hyperalgesia in opioid-induced bowel dysfunction

You-Min Lin et al.

Summary: Constipation and abdominal pain in opioid-induced bowel dysfunction may be caused by fecal retention, which leads to changes in smooth muscle function and neuronal excitability. Prevention of fecal retention through liquid diet can potentially improve symptoms by regulating the expression of COX-2 and NGF.

Targeting Mechano-Transcription Process as Therapeutic Intervention in Gastrointestinal Disorders

Ramasatyaveni Geesala et al.

Summary: Mechano-transcription is a process where mechanical stress alters gene expression, which can lead to pathophysiological changes in gastrointestinal disorders like inflammation, pain, and fibrosis. Studies have shown that persistent mechanical stress in the gut may result in visceral hypersensitivity, inflammation, and fibrosis development.
