Significance of Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibodies in CSF A Retrospective Multicenter Study

Sara Carta et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinical relevance of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibodies (MOG-Abs) positivity. The findings suggest that CSF MOG-Abs positivity is associated with more severe clinical presentation and worse outcomes.

Diagnosis and management of multiple sclerosis and other relapsing demyelinating disease in childhood

Aphra Luchesa Smith et al.

Summary: Pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis is the most common relapsing demyelinating syndrome in children, highlighting the importance of early recognition and referral to specialist services. New treatments aim to reduce relapses and disability, while a holistic approach to management is essential for supporting patients and families.

Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-Associated Disease (MOGAD): A Review of Clinical and MRI Features, Diagnosis, and Management

Elia Sechi et al.

Summary: Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is a recently defined inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS). The clinical and MRI features of MOGAD differ from other diseases such as AQP4-IgG+NMOSD and MS. MOG-IgG detection confirms the diagnosis, but false positive results are possible. International consensus diagnostic criteria are being compiled. Acute attacks of MOGAD are responsive to high dose steroids, and plasma exchange may be considered for refractory cases. More research is needed to guide attack-prevention and maintenance treatments.

Silent New Brain MRI Lesions in Children with MOG-Antibody Associated Disease

Giulia Fadda et al.

Summary: Research found that 14% of children with MOG-IgG antibodies had asymptomatic new brain lesions, but this does not necessarily indicate the need for immunotherapy. The detection of asymptomatic lesions in patients with this antibody has a low predictive value for clinically relapsing disease.

Summary: The field of acquired CNS neuroimmune demyelination in children is undergoing significant transformation with the development of diagnostic criteria and therapeutic methods. The distinction between multiple sclerosis, MOGAD, and AQP4-NMOSD is becoming clearer, leading to potential breakthroughs in treatment.
