Novel maternal autoantibodies in autism spectrum disorder: Implications for screening and diagnosis

Rut Mazon-Cabrera et al.

Summary: This study aims to identify novel maternal autoantibodies reactive against human fetal brain antigens and explore their use as biomarkers for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) screening and diagnosis. Antibodies to 6 novel ASD antigens were identified in maternal samples, and antibody reactivity against these targets was found to be significantly higher in mothers of children with ASD compared to mothers with typically developing children.

LDHB Deficiency Promotes Mitochondrial Dysfunction Mediated Oxidative Stress and Neurodegeneration in Adult Mouse Brain

Jun Sung Park et al.

Summary: Age-related decline in mitochondrial function and oxidative stress plays a critical role in neurodegeneration. LDHB deficiency may lead to brain oxidative stress-mediated progression of neurodegeneration via regulating p-AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1alpha signaling. Treatment with osmotin could improve mitochondrial functions, abrogate oxidative stress and alleviate neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in adult Ldhb(-/-) mice.

Risk assessment analysis for maternal autoantibody-related autism (MAR-ASD): a subtype of autism

Alexandra Ramirez-Celis et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify specific maternal autoantibody patterns against ASD-associated proteins, finding unique patterns associated with ASD and potential biomarkers for up to 18% of cases.

Blood biomarker discovery for autism spectrum disorder: A proteomic analysis

Laura Hewitson et al.

Summary: Current research efforts are focused on identifying potential blood biomarkers for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to determine risk or aid in diagnosis. Proteomic analysis revealed altered levels of certain proteins in the serum of ASD boys, suggesting the possibility of using a panel of proteins as a blood biomarker. Further investigation is needed to validate the protein biomarker panel for ASD in boys.

SSNA1 stabilizes dynamic microtubules and detects microtubule damage

Elizabeth J. Lawrence et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that SSNA1 modulates multiple parameters of microtubule dynamic instability, slows down growth, shrinkage, and catastrophe rates, and promotes rescue. SSNA1 forms stretches along microtubule ends, binds cooperatively to the lattice, and is enriched at damage sites.
