The Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire and its modified short version validation in adults and children with allergic rhinitis

P. Katsimpris et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop Greek versions of the Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire and Mini-Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire for adult and pediatric populations. Results showed that the questionnaires were valid and reliable methods of assessing allergic rhinitis-related quality of life. Female patients tended to have higher scores, while patient age was positively correlated with questionnaire scores.

Long-term efficacy of turbinoplasty compared with medical treatment in patients with allergic rhinitis

Shin Hyuk Yoo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term efficacy of turbinoplasty in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) and compared it with medical treatment. The results showed that patients in the turbinoplasty group had significant improvements in all allergic symptom scores, lower prescription frequency, and higher subjective satisfaction scores compared to the medication group.

Chronic respiratory rhinitis: Toward endoscopic diagnosis of nasal allergy? An observational study

M. Barron et al.

Summary: The study assessed the functional, endoscopic, and tomodensitometric features of patients with chronic respiratory rhinitis (CRR). The findings revealed that CRR patients often have signs of inflammation or edema in the inferior or middle turbinates, along with hypersecretion. The ethmoid opacities in CRR were less significant and mainly located in the medial compartment near the olfactory cleft. Positive allergological assessments were observed in CRR cases, while olfactory impairment was significantly lower compared to a control group with nasal polyposis (NP).

O. Laccourreye et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of biostatistics in scientific articles published in the European Annals of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Diseases, finding that 73.7% of articles utilized statistics, with no significant association with main characteristics. Among articles using statistics, 77.7% employed parametric tests, while 51.4% used non-parametric tests.

Endoscopic sinus surgery outcomes in CRS: quality of life and correlations with NOSE scale in a prospective cohort study

Athanasios Saratziotis et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) on patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP). Results showed significant improvements in clinical outcomes, quality of life (QoL), and nasal obstruction symptoms. Additionally, the NOSE and SNOT-22 scores were found to be important predictors of postoperative improvement.

Clinical Efficacy and Possible Mechanism of Endoscopic Vidian Neurectomy for House Dust Mite-Sensitive Allergic Rhinitis

Li Shen et al.

Summary: Endoscopic vidian neurectomy (EVN) has better short-term efficacy than subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) in treating house dust mite (HDM)-sensitive allergic rhinitis (AR), possibly due to reduced levels of total and specific immunoglobulin E after surgery, with tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha potentially involved in the therapeutic mechanism.
