A regional geomagnetic field model over Southern Africa derived with harmonic splines from Swarm satellite and ground-based data recorded between 2014 and 2019

Emmanuel Nahayo et al.

Summary: A regional harmonic spline geomagnetic main field model, SACFM-3, is derived for the southern African region using Swarm satellite and ground-based data. The model shows a steady decrease of the radial component and field intensity in almost the entire region, with higher rates of decrease in the western part. The study also reveals a noticeable decrease of field intensity from the south-western coast of South Africa, indicating the expansion of the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) area.

Characterizing the Source of the Eastern Galicia Magnetic Anomaly (NW Spain): The Role of Extension in the Origin of Magnetization at the Central Iberian Arc

Puy Ayarza et al.

Summary: The Eastern Galicia Magnetic Anomaly is extensively studied due to its location on the Lugo-Sanabria gneiss dome and the exposure of its source rocks in the Xistral Tectonic Window. Research on the anomaly's source rocks suggests that magnetization is influenced by late Variscan extensional tectonics, with the entrance of fluids leading to the crystallization of magnetite and hematite. This extension-related magnetization likely affected a large portion of the NW Iberian Massif.

International Geomagnetic Reference Field: the thirteenth generation

P. Alken et al.

Summary: The IAGA V-MOD working group adopted the thirteenth generation of the IGRF in December 2019, which includes definitive main field models for epoch 2015.0 and 2020.0, as well as predictive linear secular variations for 2020.0 to 2025.0. This update provides equations, spherical harmonic coefficients, and maps for magnetic parameters and their predicted changes from 2020.0 to 2025.0.

Geomagnetic Virtual Observatories: monitoring geomagnetic secular variation with the Swarm satellites

Magnus D. Hammer et al.

Summary: The paper presents geomagnetic main field and secular variation time series derived from magnetic field measurements collected by the three Swarm satellites. Two types of Geomagnetic Virtual Observatory (GVO) data products are described, offering a convenient way to monitor and analyze long-term variations of the geomagnetic field globally. The Swarm GVO time series, regularly updated every four months, are well suited for users interested in core dynamics, magnetospheric and ionospheric signals, and data assimilation studies.

Signs of a new geomagnetic jerk between 2019 and 2020 from Swarm and observatory data

F. Javier Pavon-Carrasco et al.

Summary: Research indicates that a new geomagnetic jerk occurred around 2019-2020, with global characteristics observed in both ground and satellite magnetic data. The most recent geomagnetic field model confirms the worldwide nature of this new jerk, while a new pulse at the core-mantle boundary appears to mark the onset of this event.
