Comparison of photocatalytic and antibacterial activities of allotropes of graphene doped Sm2O3 nanocomposites: Optical, thermal, and structural studies

Arooj Javaid et al.

Summary: This study mainly focuses on the synthesis of two allotropes of graphene, graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and their characterization. The synthesized nanocomposites, Sm2O3/GO and Sm2O3/rGO, were characterized using FTIR, XRD, TGA, and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The results showed characteristic FTIR peaks and specific crystallite shapes, as well as narrow optical band gaps for the nanocomposites. Additionally, the nanocomposites exhibited photocatalytic efficiency in the degradation of methylene blue and antimicrobial activities against bacterial strains.

Green Synthesis of Fe-Cu Bimetallic Supported on Alginate-Limestone Nanocomposite for the Removal of Drugs from Contaminated Water

Inas A. A. Ahmed et al.

Summary: Fe-Cu supported on Alginate-limestone (Fe-Cu/Alg-LS) was synthesized to increase the surface area of ternary composites. The surface morphology, particle size, crystallinity, and elemental content of the composite were examined using SEM, EDX, and TEM. Fe-Cu/Alg-LS showed high adsorption efficiency for the removal of CIP and LEV from contaminated medium. The optimized conditions and kinetic and isotherm models were determined to understand the adsorption process.

Biologically Reduced Zinc Oxide Nanosheets Using Phyllanthus emblica Plant Extract for Antibacterial and Dye Degradation Studies

Awais Khalid et al.

Summary: The significance of nanostructures synthesized using green chemistry has recently attracted attention in various scientific domains. This article provides an overview of the biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanosheets using extract from the Phyllanthus emblica plant. The synthesized ZnO nanosheets were analyzed using XRD, XPS, SEM, and FTIR. The antibacterial activity of the biosynthesized ZnO nanosheets was evaluated, and they exhibited effective activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. The ZnO nanosheets also showed promising photocatalytic activity for dye degradation.

Morphology and size effect of Pd nanocrystals on formaldehyde and hydrogen sensing performance of SnO2 based gas sensor

Gaojie Li et al.

Summary: The morphology and size effect of Pd nanocrystals on the gas sensing performance of SnO2 were investigated. The Pd-SnO2 composites with different sizes and morphologies showed selectivity to H-2 and HCHO. The size effect was found to be more significant than the morphology effect, and the 2%PdNP-SnO2 composite exhibited the best sensing performance among all the composites with different sizes. The Pd-NC1-SnO2 and Pd-OC-SnO2 composites showed better sensing performance to HCHO and H-2, respectively, among the composites with similar sizes but different shapes.

Effect of Fe Doping on Photocatalytic Dye-Degradation and Antibacterial Activity of SnO2 Nanoparticles

T. Preethi et al.

Summary: In this study, iron-doped tin oxide nanoparticles (Fe-SnO2 NPs) were successfully synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method. Structural characterization confirmed the incorporation of Fe ions into the SnO2 lattice, without any deviation in the crystal system. Optical analysis revealed a red shift in the absorption band and a decrease in the band gap energy with increasing Fe-dopant concentration. The Fe-SnO2 NPs exhibited excellent photocatalytic and antibacterial properties.
