Low-temperature VOCs oxidation performance of Pt/zeolites catalysts with hierarchical pore structure

Jialu Wang et al.

Summary: This study explored the catalytic oxidation activity of different zeolite-supported Pt catalysts for the low-temperature removal of VOCs. The synergistic effect between Pt nanoparticles and surface acid sites was found to play a crucial role in VOCs oxidation, and the small size and high dispersion of Pt nanoparticles as well as the strong acidity and abundant acid sites of catalysts contributed to the oxidation of different VOC types.

The Recycling of Coal Fly Ash: A Review on Sustainable Developments and Economic Considerations

Amanda Qinisile Vilakazi et al.

Summary: The opportunities for recycling and utilizing coal fly ash (CFA) have increased in the past two decades. However, there are still limitations in commercialization, and disposal and management are major concerns. CFA is currently commercially feasible in the building and construction industry, but alternative uses such as metal extraction and wastewater purification are being explored. Challenges include the generation of secondary solid residues (SSR) and the need for downstream processing. To make CFA a more attractive commercial resource, complete and holistic utilization in different applications is necessary.

Fusion-Assisted Hydrothermal Synthesis and Post-Synthesis Modification of Mesoporous Hydroxy Sodalite Zeolite Prepared from Waste Coal Fly Ash for Biodiesel Production

Juvet Malonda Shabani et al.

Summary: The increase in biodiesel prices is a challenge due to expensive oil feedstocks and issues with homogeneous catalysts. This study explores the use of waste-derived black soldier fly maggot oil and hydroxy sodalite zeolite synthesized from waste coal fly ash as catalysts in biodiesel production. The results show that the zeolite catalyst derived from waste coal fly ash performs well in terms of biodiesel yield and quality, while the ion-exchange modified catalyst's performance decreases. Compared to conventional catalyst sodium hydroxide, the zeolite catalyst derived from waste coal fly ash is more economically viable.

Promoting effect of acid sites in hierarchical porous Pt/ZSM-5 catalysts for low-temperature removal of VOCs

Fanzhe Kong et al.

Summary: A group of Pt/ZSM-5 catalysts with different SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratios were prepared and their catalytic activities for various VOCs were evaluated. The Pt/ZSM-5(46) catalyst showed the highest activity for n-hexane and benzene oxidation, while Pt/ZSM-5(25) catalyst exhibited the highest activity for oxygen/nitrogen-containing VOCs oxidation due to the presence of acid sites.

Facile and fast determination of Si/Al ratio of zeolites using FTIR spectroscopy technique

Yik-Ken Ma et al.

Summary: A facile quantitative determination of the Si/Al ratio in zeolite frameworks using IR spectroscopy is reported. The study found that the SAR for medium-to-high Al content zeolites correlates linearly to the intensity of the IR band at specific wavenumbers. This technique is shown to be an alternative to conventional ICP-OES and XRF spectroscopy for determining the SAR of zeolites.

Recent Progress in Synthesis and Application of Nanosized and Hierarchical Mordenite-A Short Review

Yuri Kalvachev et al.

Summary: Mordenite, a common zeolite, is widely used as an acid catalyst in the petrochemical industry due to its high silica/alumina ratio that allows it to withstand high temperatures and acidic environments. Various modifications, such as crystal size reduction and post-synthetic treatments, are applied to improve diffusion constraints in catalytic processes.

ZSM-5-supported V-Cu bimetallic oxide catalyst for remarkable catalytic oxidation of toluene in coal-fired flue gas

Jianhan Li et al.

Summary: This study utilized a V-Cu bimetallic bifunctional catalyst VCu/ZSM-5 to efficiently remove VOCs and tolerate complex flue gas, with the catalytic material easily fabricated via the impregnation method. The enhanced performance of the V-Cu/ZSM-5 catalyst was attributed to improved reducibility at lower temperatures, higher electron transfer efficiency, more abundant O alpha species, and lower C7H8 activation temperature, providing insights for removing VOCs from complex coal-fired flue gas.
