Association of Mortality and Risk of Epilepsy With Type of Acute Symptomatic Seizure After Ischemic Stroke and an Updated Prognostic Model

Lucia Sinka et al.

Summary: This study found that acute symptomatic seizures after stroke are associated with increased mortality and risk of epilepsy. The study also compared mortality and epilepsy risk following different types of acute symptomatic seizures, and found an association between seizure type and risk.

Factors associated with acute symptomatic seizure occurrence among patients with posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome

Nattha Sanghan et al.

Summary: Acute symptomatic seizures occurred in half of the patients with PRES, mainly within the first 14 days after PRES onset, and convulsive seizures were the most common type. The occurrence of acute symptomatic seizures was directly associated with preeclampsia and autoimmune disease, while headache showed a reverse association.

Acute Symptomatic Seizure Associated With Chronic Antiseizure Medication Use After Stroke

MarieElena Byrnes et al.

Summary: This study aims to analyze the management of antiseizure medications (ASMs) in patients with acute symptomatic seizures (ASyS) after stroke and predict the factors associated with long-term ASM use.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the treatment practices and seizure outcomes of acute symptomatic seizures within 1 year, with the assumption that long-term antiseizure medication beyond the acute phase is unnecessary based on current evidence.

Safety of Early Discontinuation of Antiseizure Medication After Acute Symptomatic Neonatal Seizures

Hannah C. Glass et al.

Summary: In this comparative study, no significant difference was found in functional neurodevelopment or epilepsy risk at age 24 months among neonates whose ASM was discontinued vs maintained at hospital discharge after resolution of acute symptomatic seizures. These results suggest that discontinuation of ASM prior to hospital discharge may be suitable for most infants with acute symptomatic neonatal seizures.

Long-term continuation of anti-seizure medications after acute stroke

Vineet Punia et al.

Summary: This study found that about one-third of stroke patients with concerns for acute seizures and who received continuous EEG monitoring continued to use anti-seizure medications beyond the first poststroke clinic visit. Admission to the NICU, the presence of acute symptomatic seizures, and epileptiform abnormalities on cEEG were the main factors associated with long-term ASM use.
