Determination of Sessile Drop Wetting Angle Based on μCT without the Direct Angle Measurement

Rail Kadyrov et al.

Summary: Wettability is crucial for fluid position and transport in hydrocarbon reservoirs. In this study, a 3D mu CT scanning method is proposed to measure the wetting angle of a droplet on the material surface, which provides more stable values compared to the standard optical method. The results show differences between the mu CT method and the 2D optical method in calculating contact angles.

Corrosion Inhibition of Aluminum in Acidic Solution by Ilex paraguariensis (Yerba Mate) Extract as a Green Inhibitor

Claudia M. Mendez et al.

Summary: In this study, the inhibitory effect of Ilex paraguariensis (Yerba Mate) extract on the corrosion of aluminum in 0.1 M HCl solution was investigated using weight loss tests, potentiodynamic polarization measurements, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in the temperature range of 298-323 K. The results showed that the inhibitory action of Ilex paraguariensis extract improved with increasing concentration and remained effective at higher temperatures. The adsorption behavior of organic compounds followed a modified Langmuir isotherm. Thermodynamic parameters indicated both chemical and physical adsorption.

Online process monitoring of direct laser interference patterning using an infrared camera system

Lukas Olawsky et al.

Summary: Direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) allows the fabrication of uniform microstructures in the sub & mu;m range. In this study, an IR camera system is used to capture the average temperature in real time during the DLIP treatment. The analysis shows a linear correlation between the applied laser fluence and the average measured temperature, as well as significant changes in surface roughness, skewness, and kurtosis within this fluence range.

Enhancement of the corrosion resistance of mild steel with femtosecond laser- nanostructuring and CrCoNi medium entropy alloy coating

Shahbaz Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study investigates the corrosion resistance of mild steel surface nanostructured with a femtosecond laser and coated with a high corrosion resistant CrCoNi medium entropy alloy through magnetron sputtering. By combining high-power femtosecond laser surface nanostructuring and thin-film coating, significant enhancement in corrosion protection was achieved. The results show that the combination of femtosecond laser structuring and magnetron sputter coating is the most effective for desired high corrosion resistance, providing new possibilities for corrosion prevention.

Anti-corrosion superhydrophobic surfaces of Al alloy based on micro-protrusion array structure fabricated by laser direct writing

Guoqiang Xin et al.

Summary: This study utilized nanosecond laser scanning to create a micro-protrusion array structure covered with nanoparticles on the surface of 5083 Al alloy, resulting in superhydrophobic surfaces with different adhesion effects. It was observed that the sputtering material during laser ablation oxidized most severely, increasing the oxygen content by 23.65%, and long chains of FAS-17 molecules were attached on the modified superhydrophobic surface. The superhydrophobic surface demonstrated significantly reduced corrosion current density and high inhibition efficiency, with impedance tests confirming its anti-corrosion ability.
