Healing of donor defect states in monolayer molybdenum disulfide using oxygen-incorporated chemical vapour deposition

Pin-Chun Shen et al.

Summary: Passivating sulfur vacancies in monolayer molybdenum disulfide using oxygen-incorporated chemical vapour deposition technique can lead to reduced n-type doping, enhanced photoluminescence, and improved contact resistance. The presence of molybdenum-oxygen bonding at sulfur vacancy sites in oxygen-incorporated MoS2 suppresses the formation of donor states, resulting in better performance compared to MoS2 grown without oxygen.

Spatially isolated neutral excitons via clusters on trilayer MoS2

Cheolmin Park et al.

Summary: Despite having a large exciton binding energy, two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) face limitations as light-emitting materials due to the transfer of neutral excitons to trions and the occurrence of exciton-exciton annihilation (EEA). This study presents an isolated neutral exciton system with high spectral weight, achieved through MoS2 clusters synthesized on a MoS2 trilayer. By decomposing trions and observing the relationship between trions and B excitons, this research offers valuable insights into the radiative recombination processes in 2D TMDs.

Wafer-Scale Uniform Growth of an Atomically Thin MoS2 Film with Controlled Layer Numbers by Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition

Woonggi Hong et al.

Summary: In this study, MoS2 thin films were successfully synthesized using the MOCVD method, with controlled number of layers, growth rate, and electrical properties. The growth map guided the growth of MoS2, enabling control over growth rate, domain density, and domain size. Electrical performance of the MOCVD-grown MoS2 with five layers exhibited promising on/off current ratio and field effect mobility.

NaCl-assisted substrate dependent 2D planar nucleated growth of MoS2

Aditya Singh et al.

Summary: A facile NaCl-assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method was used to synthesize high-quality MoS2 on different substrates, with sapphire and SiO2/Si suitable for large flakes growth and mica suitable for continuous films. 1L-MoS2 on sapphire exhibited high crystalline quality, while on other substrates like quartz and bare Si, the quality was poorer. The study highlights the role of NaCl in promoting the formation of seeding promoter and facilitating layer transfer for large-scale synthesis of high-performance optoelectronic devices.
